Yea it's a lot of fun. Way more than most western horses.

Cutters and reiners are fun. The rest looks boring as hell.

Excuse my equine ignorance but what exactly is a reigning horse? My dad sold all our horses when I was little so I didn`t have much experience with them growing up.

They do patterns where they do sliding stops, spins, stuff like that. I'm not the best person to explain this. I jump things.

I got into cutting horses cause I really suck at roping
Bb pretty much nailed reigning. Its not the most exciting thing to watch. I ride western cause I am a wrangler man just can't see myself in tights and knee high boots!

I think BB needs to post a pic of her in that kind of clothing. For reference purposes only of course.

I roped at a few AQHA shows and tried watching some of the reigning competition. Looked pretty boring. About like barrel racing and pole bending.

Western riding is just boring to me. Don't get me wrong, I love trail riding (my old pony was the best DD ever) but man. Western pleasure? That's like watching paint dry.

And I've posted a pic of me riding before...y'all must have missed it.

Oh...and fellas....soooo much talent at English shows. Lots of chicks in tight pants. Very few guys and only about 1 in 10 of them are straight.

Dressage queens are the snobby bitches, not us!

Angus...jumpers are all about speed and keeping up the fences. Hunters are judged on their way of movement and style of jumping. Equitation is where the riders style is judged.

I've mostly competed in hunters and eq. I have a hard time remembering jumper courses. My OTTB was really fun in jumpers though.

They have lots of different kinds. Snaffled are mainly used. I have both of mine in a rubber D ring snaffle. But they do have bits w ports and/or shanks.

I use twisted snaffle with a standard shank so its pretty much the same except for the saddle (which looks to be a nut killer maybe why so many of them are queer) and the boots and tights if you compare western to english

I started both in slow twist snaffled until they each settled to wear I could soften.

I start all my colts in a rope halter. Ride in that until they get soft in the face, bending at the pole, progress to the snaffle and after a year or so they will develope into a bridle horse. But I always go back to a rope halter or bosal to soften up now and then.

I didn't start either from the ground.

The TB was super strong and I started in a plain eggbutt but moved him to the slow twist. Once he got off my hands and softened, I bumped him down to the rubber snaffle and he was very happy in that.

The appendix was in a tom thumb type bit when I got him. The QH training really made it hard for me to get him to accept contact. I put him in the eggbutt for awhile...then his attitude got in the way so I went to the slow twist. Moved him to the rubber snaffle over the summer and he's been doing well in it. He carries himself and accepts steady contact now....but it took a while. And getting out of the 9' western stride was a pain. He's 16.2! It shouldn't have been so hard to get him to take a 12' step...lol...but he has it figured out now.

The kids I am teaching to reign I have them with an egg butt for their horses sake. It doesn't say much for my teachi.ng cause like roping I undoubtedly suck at it, because they look like they are driving a plow mule. No matter what I say they just won't listen.
