How Come - The Difference Between Tiger Fans and Saints Fans
Posted on 1/25/12 at 2:19 pm

Why is it that when the Saints go through their season, look like the best team in the NFL for most of the year, and then proceed to lose a playoff game they could have easily won, the majority of Saints fans, while obviously upset, say things like we'll be there next year, thanks for the great season and are otherwise generally optimistic and realistic?
In contrast, a minority of LSU fans who happen to be very, very loud, bitch, moan, talk about how the program is falling apart, call for the coach's head, scream and rant about how the coach owes them an explanation about what happened and are otherwise disagreeable (including but not limited to making up false stories of fights and disagreements) INSTEAD OF LOOKING BACK AND SAYING GEE, THANKS FOR ALL OF THE HARD WORK YOU GUYS PUT IN AS COLLEGE KIDS FOR GOING 13-0 IN THE FIRST PLACE AND GIVING US FANS ONE OF THE BEST SEASON EVER?

What year did this happen? It wasn't this year. Gave up too many points and lost to the Rams.

I was calling for G. Williams to go. And,..... poof.

The Saints offense did not look inept in their playoff game. Their defense did, and guess what, they now have a new DC. Plenty of Saints fans were bitching about the horrible defense as well.

Your posting skills are as awful as your drop linebacker technique.

because the Saints didn't have a total coaching meltdown and look like complete shite in the playoffs for one
ftr, I enjoyed the season for LSU but damn...WTF in the BCS game

Trashier people tend to be more passive.

Take a look at the Saints board on this website during a Saints loss. You would've thought the loss to the Packers in the 1st game of the season last year meant that the Saints franchise was being eliminated from the NFL. It's easily worse over there that it is on the Rant during an LSU game.
I will say that I think most people got over the Saints loss quicker than the LSU loss, but the Saints didn't lose a championship game to their most hated rival coached by their former coach who brought them to greatness.

How do you explain LSU fans then?

Your question is way too simple. I think the difference runs deeper than one year. The Saints sucked for an extremely long time so there were never any expectations associated with them. Then in their darkest hour and NOLA's darkest hour, they come from nowhere with this amazing 5-6 year run and Saints fans are just enjoying the ride. In the NFL success is measured by playoffs, and let's face it the Saints were rarely there in their first 40+ years. Saints fans aren't spoiled like LSU fans, when even in down years there are still bowl games, and then in the good years SEC championships and national title contention from time to time. Plus, the Saints didn't get demolished in the Superdome by their rival that they'd already beaten.
ETA: and Saints fans got some satisfaction after their loss (see Williams, Gregg)

It's just as bad over there when the Saints lose as it is here when LSU loses.
The only difference being this is an LSU site, so you're going to have ten times the number of ungrateful LSU fans than ungrateful Saints fans.

Maybe...but not worse than the scoreboard
which is why I avoid both during games...and for about 3 days after. Even a win. Win or lose, both boards are majority negative so I just stay away

There is no difference. There really isn't.
The loud, obnoxious, belly-aching complainers who post whiny messages GET THE MOST ATTENTION, whether it is LSU, the Saints, Alabama, the Falcons, Slippery Rock, etc.
The majority of the posters who post positive messages or non-controversial messages, are ignored and somehow NEVER EXISTED because people only pay attention to the negative.
When negativity is given credence and put on a pedestal, somehow everything else falls by the wayside.
The same analogy can be made when people say AAAALLLLLLLLLL LSU fans or AAALLLLLLLLLL Saints fans are the same. That is preposterous.
It is just not possible to lump together millions of different, varied, unconnected people as the same just because of the sports teams they root for.
Those who work in Marketing Research and do demographic random sampling know all about this..

Just my opinion but generally college football fans are more passionate about their team than pro fans. If the Saints lose I'm OK that evening. If LSU loses I have several bad days ahead of me.

To be fair, one Saints regular season loss isn't nearly as damaging to their season as one LSU regular season loss because of the way the sports are set up.
And to the people saying Saints fans are trashier, that's so stupid. Most LSU fans are also Saints fans.

Because LSU's minority fanbase is greater than the Saint's majority fanbase, therefore they are louder. College fans are MUCH MORE passionate than NFL fans too, therefore they are louder. And the Saints weren't undefeated & didn't lose to their most hated rival in a complete flop and inexplicable manner.
