It is hard to "love him without hating him". That's an interesting dynamic, I never thought of it. While it's true that he does do some things well and has a certain enigmatic quality to him that endears him to some fans and players. It's just hard to separate all the 'little' good things he does with the monumental, colossal few 'bad' things he does. There's no counterbalance, the few bad things stand out so much bigger than the many little good things.

You do realize that the team that just won the NC has relied on those principles all year long. And that team won the same way a few years ago against Texas. Football is won in the trenches and that's SEC football, not Big 10 football.
Alabama beat us in the trenches and their QB outplayed ours. It was a bad game for us on all fronts. We went undefeated in the regular season against one of the toughest schedules of all time, with Miles' principles.
All these complaints aren't about Miles' style of play, they are just dressed up to look that way because of the insane attachment to Lee around this place. Face it Lee wasn't a great QB. We lost the NC game, and we lost because of more reasons than just the QB.
Miles deserves fair criticism (as well as praise), but some of this is going way off the deep end.

Miles is an football enigma! I realize trying to understand him is impossible. Viewing him like that makes accepting him a lot easier.

Les Miles is being giving to much credit for LSU football program success and he is not really all that smart of a college football head coach. What are you talking about?

Funny how he gets none of the credit and all of the blame.

Understand. I have a simuliar situtation, but doing some quick math came up with approximately 15 posts a day for roughly 54 months. Wow.

Les Miles can't evaluate QB without the help of more better able football coaches around him. He is a phony pure and simple. That is why all the evasive double talk. A clown in the wrong way. A out right failure as a person and as a man. A everyday con who was hired by a very good college football program LSU. He is lucky to be as far along as he is. So far, up until now.
I hope GoldRing doesn't actually have a degree from LSU because I feel like he is making mine less valuable by each post.
Dear God, I heard that. Plus he's just wrong. Seriously wrong.

Distilling down Les Miles

It's really funny to hear some folks say that Nick is the greatest college coach in the business today, then criticize Les for running the same type of offense that Nick runs at Bama. Run first, Pass when you have to...Bama played that all year, folks...one of the reasons they were so successful in the MNC is they changed their tendencies (& we did not, which was a coaching error) and started passing, esp. on first down. Les sees the QB as a game manager...Nick sees the QB as a game manager...there's no difference. In the MNC, Nick changed his philosophy and it worked as it was so unexpected (at least to the LSU coaching staff and that's their bad)...but to say that Les doesn't want to pass is a bit simplistic...there were down the field passes called in the MNC...the QB didn't execute...if the players don't execute...generally their team loses. Les has always seemed to learn from his mistakes (clock mgt, playing only upperclassmen, etc.) & I haven't noticed that he makes the same mistakes twice and...unlike Nick...Les is still open to learning new things about the game...Nick, mistakenly believes he invented the game (I understand that myth is now part of Alabama school history texts)...so I look for him to still emphasize the run but pass the ball much more since we'll have a QB that can actually pass effectively. Unfortunately, coaches, even the best ones, are limited by their personnel. That's why, great players make great coaches.

Bama did not change anything about their game except to prepare for it, which *LM seemingly did not; we saw improvement in 'Bama's motivation, special teams play, and field goal kicking.
LSU? Despite that the starting QB struggled from the very first snap, Miles refused to consider the other good options available to him. (A very large percentage of LSU watchers know this; it's not debatable).

you're not telling us anything we don't already know. many of us have decided to move on and not let it ruin our lives.

Uh, yes they did. they threw the ball more times on first down than any other game this season and barely ran Richardson.

This.
Instead of being thankful we won 24 games the past two seasons with average to below average QBs, people are pissed.
