Shea's take

quote:

It should be noted that after being on the staff for less than a year, LSU quarterbacks coach Steve Kragthorpe was able to convince Kiel (at least for a time) to buck distance as a concern and commit to the Tigers. There’s a good chance Kragthorpe will get the Tigers in the mix for another top quarterback prospect in 2013, especially with a better head start on the recruiting game – which can get stickiest when grabbing quarterbacks before all the dominos fall. Point being, it doesn’t appear that the sky is falling in Baton Rouge (if fans didn’t pick up on that by the 13-1 record, SEC Championship and berth to the BCS National Championship – not to mention top-3 ranking the team is sure to start the season with next September).

ALL this. We didn't absolutely need Gunner this year, even if it stings. If Mett does absolutely blow up next year and draft out, it will probably mean we won a NC. That, or he's back in 2013. We will be fine.

Trent Dilfer on the HERD just said LSU is not the place for a quarterback to prepare for the NFL, given the BCS championship game. Kiel left because he is focused on getting into he NFL...not national championships.

Ok. Time to focus more on local - Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas - Recruits. Hell, we're all pissed about the JJ and JL deal, but we won a ton of games with those guys. Yea, I don't want to go thru that again, but it seems like a local guy is more likely to stay committed to the University. Lets get all the top athletes in oour area and we'll do fine.

Just my thoughts.

And, he knows this how?

It's fine to have an opinion generally on whether this is or isn't the place to become an NFL QB, but I don't know how he knows the second part unless he's spoken to the boy.

Quotes From Gunner Kiel:

quote:

"This recruitment process was a roller-coaster ride at times, but I know I have made the right decision for my family and me," Kiel said. "There were three critical elements I was looking for in my future school: the quality of education I would receive, the distance from home and the comfort level I would have with the players and coaches in the football program. Notre Dame was the perfect fit for me because it hit all three areas.

"Coach Kelly was great throughout my recruitment, as many times our conversations had nothing do with football. That really showed me he had my best intentions in mind. He was persistent yet also patient while recruiting me and I look forward to playing for him the next four years. I couldn't be happier to be a member of the Fighting Irish football team. I'm excited about the future of the program."

From what I understand, kid's mom freaked out about him moving so far away over the weekend. You can't fault Gunner for not having the heart to leave his mom behind in tears. If anyone kind of screwed us over it is the parents who allowed him to makes his own decision only to take it away again at the last minute. Before you guys attack me for my criticism of the parents, I am a parent and I understand on a basic level where they are coming from, but adults should really be the source of emotionally stability here, not the other way around.

This is the third major blow to LSU recruiting in the past couple of weeks, and it is really starting to suck.

FWIW Trent Dilfer is possible the most annoyingly retarded analyst ESPN has that is meant to be taken seriously. He was a terrible NFL quarterback and that somehow makes him qualified to tear apart every QB that comes along.

He is a fricking tool. frick him. No seriously.

"I'm excited to get here and get started on my classwork and to start the conditioning program with Coach (Paul) Longo," Day said. "I really liked meeting the guys during my recruiting process and I'm excited to start workouts with them this winter." Many internet scouting services rated Kiel the top quarterback recruit in the nation this year. The 2011 Indiana Mr. Football passed for 2,517 yards and 28 TDs as a senior and rushed for 482 yards and 11 TDs. He helped lead Columbus East High School to the Indiana state 4A semifinals as a senior and was named the Gatorade Indiana Player of the Year. Kiel passed for 7,175 yards in his high school career. People that have blamed the loss of Miller on Kiel are pathetic.

Kiel's character should also be in question as well though, but you will see this happen multiple times on NSD.
