Jon Heyman, Mariners writers saying it is in the works via twitter. Be interesting to see what the final deal would be, might work out nice for both sides, but I hate to see the M's lose Pineda.

They need hitting and have multiple young arms on the way. I'd imagine it is more than just Montero.

Apparently it's not straight up. There's other players involved. I loved Pineda, so I don't know how I feel about this yet, but I'm gonna wait to see all of the details.

I'd imagine they're getting someone like Betances in the deal too.

No confirmation from team, but source says Mariners sending Pineda and Jose Campos to Yankees for Jesus Montero/Hector Noesi.

??

Monetero was pretty much regarded as a better prospect than Pineda by everyone going into last season. Pineda was great at the start of the season, but really fell off at the end. Montero also looked amazing in his time in the majors.

I'd take the guy that is going to play 150 games a year (and the fact that some will be at catcher makes it even better) over a guy that is going to play 30 games a year. When it comes down to prospects, hitters > pitchers. No prospect is a sure thing, but hitters have a much better chance living up to the hype.

Pineda at Safeco - 2.92 ERA
Pineda on the road - 4.40 ERA
Pineda after AS break - 5.12 ERA

The Yankees need pitching, but I dont like this trade for them.

Which isn't a good thing for Pineda since he's a right-handed fly ball pitcher. I still think he's going to be a stud though. Can Montero be a full time catcher?

Campos?! So we dealt a 19 year old who's already the 4th best pitching prospect we have too? Great.

I think this is a pretty even trade. Both guys have tons of potential.

We will probably have to revisit this trade in a couple of years.

Pineda averaged 9.1 K per 9 IP in 2011. The only full-time Yankees starters who ever had more K's than IP in a season? Cone & Clemens

Last year was his rookie year. The guy is 22. Think about that... 22. 6'7" 260.

Some of the biggest hitters in the East are right handed hitters. Of course there is still AGon, Ellsbury Crawford, Lind, Zobrist, Joyce etc, but was .237 vs lefties.

The Mariners really liked Montero and I think we should have tried to pry King Felix.

Of course we would have sent the rest of the farm as well.

But Pineda will do for now.

The Yanks tried to sell the farm for Felix like they've been doing for the past 2 years, Mariners wanted this deal.
