B-Hop was 28 years old and the fact that he didn't lose for another 12 years and still to this day hasn't been beaten anywhere near as decisively as Roy beat him proves Bernard was in his prime and Roy just made him look bad like he always did.

No he doesn't, dude named Trinidad as one of Roy's best wins. Both Roy and Trinidad were 5+ years past their primes. Trinidad who retired as a small middleweight was coming back to fight Roy at a 170 lbs catchweight

Yes he was! 36-1, but damn Barrera beat him like a drum.

Everything about this is wrong except Bernard's age.

1.He was 28, but had only been boxing pro for 5 years

2. He hit his prime around the time he mopped the floor with Glen Johnson (a guy who beat RJJ) 4 years after RJJ beat him

3. He beat Glen (as one example) way worse than RJJA beat B-Hop

4. Not only that, but B-Hop himself beat RJJ worse in The rematch than when RJJ beat him the first time

Didnt Barrera beat him in London on an HBO fight?

I always liked watching Whitaker just toy with people and piss them off because they couldn't touch him.

You do realize he's an MMA fighter and fought in the UFC. I think that makes him a little more qualified to analyze a fighter than you.

Hopkins and Roy turned pro right around the same time and had about the same number of fights.

Like I said if it took 12 years for another guy to beat Hopkins and still almost 2 decades later no one has beaten Hopkins anywhere near as decisively what does that tell you? Hopkins was in his prime and ROy made him look bad like he did to everybody

What does that have to do with his knowledge of Roy Jones and Floyd Mayweather's careers?

That tells me the B-Hop didn't hit his prime till early-mid 30's.

B-Hop is a savvy boxer and got better with age. The more tricks he learned the harder he was to beat. He hit his stride with more experience

RJJ was savvy too, but had far superior athleticism and hand speed, creativity and accuracy than almost anyone ever in The sport. He got worse when his physical tools started fading

So the fact no one touched b-hop for a long time after and that an older Hopkins beat RJJ late in both careers tells me that RJJ was at his best when he fought a B-hop who hadn't hit his prime. And that b hop was still closer to his prime than RJJ the second time they fought when b-hop won

Clearly we don't agree and that's fine. I think RJJ is great and one of The greatest DESPITE his lack of competition

I just think Floyd is the better boxer and I hate Floyd I hope manny destroys him, but I doubt it.

The hate people have for Floyd distorts their view of how great he is.

2 completely different fighters

Money's vastly better technique allows him much, much better longevity but makes it "appear" as though his peak wasn't as dominant since he doesn't just Tyson people.

I'll take Mayweather Jr

And the reverse can be said the love for Money distorts what people think of him. I am not a Mayweather fan, but he is not a scrub as many claim. I just do not think he is an elite fighter that spans generations. I do think he is an elite fighter of HIS generation though. I would have liked to seen what he and Whitaker would have been like if they could have fought at their primes. If he could have beaten Sweet Pea 2 of 3, then I would say yes he transcends generations.

RJJ

You can't really criticize him for his resume...Floyd doesn't exactly have the finest resume in boxing history.

Floyd is the better boxer. As somebody who boxes, I can see it more clearly than others.

I posed the question to my boxing coach just now and he said this, paraphrased:

"Close, but I'm going with Roy because Roy could and would create openings when he wanted. He was more offensive. That and the slick movements and ridiculous hand speed.

Floyd is a master technician. He gonna play defense, counter punch, frustrate the shite out of you, and never gets out of his comfort zone the whole fight.

They both make it look easy but I like Roy's offense."

Then he started rambling on about Wildred Benitez and Bernard Hopkins

Clearly. But my point is that somebody who understands the more technical aspects of boxing can better analyze a fighter than somebody who just "watches the fights" on Saturday night.

Although maybe not because football experts who were ex-players pick games wrong more than I do, and I don't know shite about the more technical aspects of football.

P.S... didn't you tell that other guy in this thread, "ETA, I've probably watched, and been around more boxing than you ever will".
