Is anyone else just a little fed up?....

So I’m coming out of ‘retirement’ to post here (LOL):
The echo chamber that the media has become is utterly ridiculous.
Now, I (as a fan) have no fear about a BAMA rematch. And I’m certain that our Tigers fear NO team. But all this talk of a rematch is borderline crazy talk… ‘Crazy’ may be a little too strong, but I think it’s nonsense. I have already grown tired of the oft-cited OU team of 2003. I know that OU didn’t win their conference, but they AT LEAST won their division and actually PLAYED for the conference title (on a neutral site, no less). And again, the 1996 UF squad that lost their final game of the season to Florida State (note: not only did they not lose to a team from their OWN DIVISION, but a team not even in their conference and on the road in a hostile environment!). UF proceeded to win—WIN—the conference by besting BAMA and earned their shot at a rematch.
It is unfortunate that BAMA and the Tigers are in the same division of the conference (and I’m not being cynical here) but ‘thems the breaks’. It is unfair to the Tigers who will need to win out, and then play in an additional game to earn their place in the BCS Championship. As it stands, our boys will HAVE to win out to make it to New Orleans. A loss, even in the SEC Championship, ends championship hopes. Now, a loss for us MAY end BAMA’s chances as well, but don’t hold your breath on that one with the Tide sitting pretty at the three spot in the BCS right now.
I guess I’ve just been watching a little too much TV being off today, but it just sounds like no one has original thoughts anymore. It’s just regurgitation and re-hash of the same tired talking points—it just becomes a contest as to who can shout the longest and loudest. There’s just no original thought out there (at least not one that seems to have traction against the ‘talking heads’, most of whom seem to be in lust with the invincible BAMA, the incomparable Trent Richardson, and the unmatched Nick Saban). They lost at HOME… The #1 defense and #1 offense in the SEC LOST at home. They scarcely moved the ball beyond LSU’s 30. Richardson gained less than 90 yards on 23 carries—gaining nearly half of that total on 2 runs. Oh well, this may all be moot if teams can take care of business, but I think it’s ridiculous all the same.

I was expecting more when you said you were coming out of retirement.

This was also before the BCS era
It wasn't necessarily a rematch for the title. The polls just rewarded Florida because of the beat down

Good Point, Powerman. My main point is the frustration with the notion that the 1996 UF situation somehow supports BAMA's case today.

I don't think they fear them, but during class I was talking to one of the freshman and he said the consensus amongst the team is they do not want a rematch.

I was for one and done before the game and said so. I want to beat someone new because this is a historic team, lets beat somebody else

solid post.
a little long.
Mute point if Oregon wins out right? What puts Bama in a rematch over Oregon?
Just something to chew on
Let's just take care of our own business and let the rest figure it out

Your point well taken. I would even venture to say on my memory alone that we were in the red zone more than Alabama. We were 3 for 3. Their defense was great but our defense was better Sat. night when it counted! Geaux Tigers!

The BCS championship game is intended to match "the number 1 team vs the number 2 team".
It aint rocket surgery to understand.
The "if you don't win you division/conference" argument is stupid. People who consistently repeat it are ignorant.
The ONLY time said argument is relevant is when you are comparing two teams in the same conference/division for one spot.
Period!
There are other valid arguments you can make, but the division/conference one aint it. I personally think if you're trying to compare 2-3 teams who are close for the second spot, that including the fact that Bama already lost on its home field to LSU is worthy of being considered.

What?!?....
Well, part of my original point IS that Bama lost at home to the Tigers (which is why I mentioned OU in 2003 on a neutral field, and UF in 1996 at FSU). The second point I thought I was trying to make is that the Tigers and Bama are in the same division and that the Tigers (if they win out) play one more game than the tide (against strong competition, no less). To me, it seems unfair, if not altogether ridiculous, that Bama could get into the BCS Championship, having not had to run the gauntlet that a team--who BEAT them--from their own DIVISION has had to run. That's all.
As to [what you THINK my argument is] being 'stupid' or what 'People... consistently repeat', I don't post here enough for you to make ANY generalizations. 'Period!'

This whole day has had a 1959 feel too it
and I wasn't even alive but just something says to me that we're heading to a rematch
which frankly would be unfair to what ever team won the first game, much like it was in 59 when LSU had to play Ole Miss again

Champions find a way to win. Losers find excuses why they lost!

Because there are two spots in the bcs national championship game.
For arguments sake, lsu wins out in regular season and second championship game.
Stanford and Ok State lose.
At this point LSU is in the BCS NC game as the #1 team.
The question is who fills the #2 spot. At that point the comparison is between Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma and Boise.
Conference/Division finish is not relevant because those four teams are not in the same conference or division.

I hear what you are getting at. I do.... I also understand the rationale. The only problem I see with your logic is this: if an Oregon team that lost to the Tigers on a 'neutral' (let's be real here) field in the 1st game of the season, wins out AND wins their conference championship (one MORE game than Bama will have played, mind you) I could definitely support the idea that they are more deserving. Not just because they won their conference, but because they (UO and Bama) each lost to a common opponent. Oregon would have beaten a top 5 opponent en route to winning their conference, and they would have had one more opporrunity for a loss on their schedule.
I honestly dislike the idea of rematching any former opponent, but an opponent from your OWN division within your own conference, whom you've already beaten at THEIR home, seems just a bit more egregious somehow... at least to me. But, oh well, right? I'll just continue to root for our Tigers to take care of business for five more games WHOEVER the opponent might be....
