NFL rules state that a coach in the booth cannot communicate directly with a player through the built-in helmet headset. Do you think the Saints might try to apply for an exemption due to extenuating circumstances while CSP is in the booth due to his injury?

It's obvious that his headset communication with Brees is a pretty important component to the Saints' success, so you'd think they might try this approach.

No. The NFL hates the Saints.

Do you think the NFL is one to budge on it's rules? I say hell no they won't make an exception. The NFL is like a finely rigid bureaucracy.

A toll is a toll, and a roll is a roll. You don't pay no tolls, then we don't eat no rolls.

If communicating with a player on the field from the box is an advantage (I'm assuming that is the case since there is a rule) then the extenuating circumstances should not matter. You can't give a team an advantage.

Nah. Payton will likely be calling the plays to Vitt, who will communicate them to Drew. I'm sure in two minute drill crunch time they'll let Drew or Vitt call the plays to make it more efficient if necessary.

They should get one of those tall chairs that tennis refs use or something and let him sit in it

I'm guessing the advantage would be right off the bat, from the booth , Payton could see an open reciever and being able to just say a quick name to brees would tip the scales..

well yeah... you could say, one could do that from the quarterback position, now couldn't you?

But with things moving so fast on the field, I'm guessing wide view from above would have its advantages.

i hear playstation is putting together a robotic vest that makes the quarterback throw to certain receivers at the digression of the coach with a remote control.

I'd venture to say that our fricking LB coach will not be talking to Drew and calling offensive plays. It will be Pete Carmichael, the QB coach and "offensive coordinator"
