Freshmen were ineligible, the season was shorter, he split time with Paul Lyons, and they ran the ball a lot.

1st-Team All-SEC all 4 years for a reason, son!

Doc, Bert played when freshman weren't eligible. Three years only.

Also because Jones was platooned with another QB. Coach Mac was gunshy over losing his starting QB with no experienced backup several years before.

Someone once said about the situation, "only Coach Mac could take an All-American and turn him into All-SEC."

That was the 70's, and coached by Charlie Mac. They were primarily a run team, and Coach Mac did have a 2 quarterback system.

With a great rest of the season Lee could work his way to 5 all time

4.

the only thing getting in the way of #4 is the likelihood that JJ will get lots of drives and come in when JL gets the ball into the deep redzone.

If he throws as many TDs the second half of this season as he did the first half he could be 3rd or 4th.

Regardless of what Coach Mac did, it would not be easy for Bert to get All-SEC ahead of Reaves and Sullivan. The point being, even for a superstar in his junior year, being All-SEC at QB is not easy. To be named First-Team All-SEC as a freshman is pretty incredible.

So he was 13-17 for 286 yards and 3 TDS?

Here are the 1st-Team All-SEC selections at QB for LSU according to the LSU Media Guide:

1958 -- Rabb
1972 -- Jones
1986 -- Hodson
1987 -- Hodson
1988 -- Hodson
1989 -- Hodson
2000 -- Booty
2006 -- Russell

Half of them belong to Hodson.

Hard to imagine Lee could end up as a top 5 or top 3 QB in LSU history with less than 2 full years as a starter

I wondered why they kept saying Lee threw only 2 TD's

Glad they squared that away.

I was in no way tyring to discount Hodson's accomplishments. I was just responding to Jones' 28 touchdown passes.

Ha ha… I said 286 because I doubled it for a friend and he would have had six TDs

I find it harder to understand how a good portion of the fanbase AND the current coaching staff have held an up-and-down redshirt freshman season against the kid.

Screw you. Jamie Howard was a great player and a great Tiger who was betrayed by the worst coaching staff in football history, who hung him out to dry. He deserves a lot better than being a puncline -- Howard was a good player. In fact, Lee is a good comp for him based on what both have gone through during the time at LSU.

Jamie Howard was a great. It's high time LSU fans realized it.

There's a reason Hodson started 4 years. He was damn good. 2 SEC Championships. His redshirt freshman year(86) & his junior year(88). That was after not having one since 1970.

As was said before, Jones was handcuffed with freshman being ineligible, Cholly Mac's 2 QB system & playcalling. Otherwise he would be right at the top.
