Tyrann Mathieu 3* recruit

Brad Wing 2* recruit

I think LSU needs to keep finding these diamonds in the rough and shining them up

Not too many 4 or 5 star punters.

2 star punter/kicker is pretty good.

I dont think any punter will ever really warrant 4 or more stars. Its more of the position.. Nobody knew about TM7 though his size just hurt him too much.

Hester was a 2* recruit.

You can't measure commitment with a stopwatch.

I think our coach knows a little about talent evaluation...

and given that he passed on a few that everyone thought were great stars... that have not turned out to be such "keepers" I'll trust his jugement.

If a kid comes to camp that fans have not heard of and Les offers him on the spot... book it the kid has "it" and Les recognizes it.

The stars don't lie, they are an evaluation of how a player translates to the next level based on a lot of of different factors, that can and do change. Its not and no one has ever claimed it was 100% accurate, its just a guide. Far more 4 and 5 star guys become college stars than 2 star guys.

ETA: the real problem with the star rankings is TM was a 3* until he committed to LSU, then he go bumped up to a 4

Punter's usually only get one star.

Wing only got two because they didn't want to frick with an Aussie.

How many 4 or 5 star recruits do Boise, Wisconsin, TCU, Oregon, Okie St and a few others have? The thing is...there are only so many 5 stars given out...i think its like 25 for Rivals. And also only so many 4 stars. I believe there are ALOT of great 3 star players that with a little coaching can easily become great players...even great NFL players. It's been proven.

Now players who are 2 star and arent kickers...i think its fairly rare for those to become big time players. It may happen...especially when they play for lower division high school teams with almost no video...but it's still fairly rare.

Wing was no diamond in the rough... He only got to play 1 year of high school ball and anyone who watched his film knew he was going to be a standout
