I'm not even going to get into the one at midfield, that was so ridiculous it doesn't even merit discussion.

But the one on the goal line was horrible as well. The rules committe has got to take out the provisions that ANY contact to the QB's head is an automatic 15 yards. Cam and Rogers basically bumped heads, and neither even went to the ground. Complete bullshite.

Two rules changes I would make

1. On RTP, give coaches right to challenge, up total challenges to three ...

2. On kickoffs under new rule, make it if ball is in end zone must be returned out or it's a safety. More exciting and gives defenses a chance .... If you kick it out of end zone, 20 yard line. Otherwise must be returned. Would be very exciting.

Agreed. If it's such an important rule, refs need to call it consistently. Brees and others get crushed, yet flags only seem to fly for innocuous head slaps or typical sacks that are deemed unecessarily rough.

Will never happen, they changed the rules to have more touchbacks and reduce injuries.

1. I don't agree with a coach's challenge as much as more oversight and consistency with the referees.

2. They moved the kickoffs up to protect the players so this change will never happen.

The NFL needs to find some consistency in the enforcement of these RTP and other subjective penalties.

Right now, there is no consistency.

The CFL has this. Run it out, or its a "rouge" and it's worth 1 point. applies to punts as well.

what's particularly frustrating is when a call is made based on contacting the QB's head, or helmet to helmet -- something that is not a judgement, it either happened or didn't -- and upon review it's clear that didn't happen.

There was at least one sack on Brees where the Panther's helmet came into contact with his face mask with no flag, nor did he cry for one either. Cam Newton gets hit in the shoulder and it bails the Panthers out not once, but twice on the same drive.

I really am not sure it's the rules that are the problem, but the refs doing a piss-poor job at consistently calling them. I think it's pretty clear when a player is trying to maliciously go for a quarterback's head or knees and when it's incidental, and only those malicious acts should be called.

C'mon NFL, let's put some commonsense back into officiating...
