It is owned by Andrea Apuzzo, the old exec at the Rib Room at the Royal Orleans years ago, I suspect the disdain he gets for his food, is the NOLA unfamiliarity with Norhtern Italian cuisine, which is a different beast than Sicilian faire.

I've been to Pei Wei, Panera Bread, and Bonefish Grill. All three are pretty decent for chain restuarants IMO.

I think they'll do well in that location.

Not really. His food was loved and he had a top notch restaurant for many years. He seems to have mailed it in over the last 5-10 years and is just coasting. I have heard horror stories about him over booking the place during holidays and for private parties, etc and just blowing what could have been a good night.
When he is back there cooking and the restaurant is calm, it can still be good, but there are still too many hiccup moments. It seems that he has alot of turnover in his back of the house staff too from what I have heard.

Yes, it is.

Also, the duck quesadillas at Coyotes Blues are awesome as well. Probably my favorite Mexican dish in BR.

One thing about Panera and Bonefish is that they will create and attractive front

This X 1000

If it takes some solid chain restaurants to do it then so be it. One thing vets needs is some decent urban planning. It just looks like a shite hole. Reminds me of airline hwy and florida blvd in Baton Rouge. And get the goddamned ducks out of the road.

You gotta stick the car dealerships somewhere.

I guess I'm in the minority here. Too many chains opening in Metairie.

I've only eaten at one of those...Bonefish...and it was fine for what it was. But...I was in Jackson, MS...not Metairie/New Orleans. There are so many better options here than Bonefish.

I LOVE Pei Wei.

Lettuce wraps and spring rolls are money.

Pad Thai's good, too.

Yep.

The notion that folks are badmouthing it simply because New Orleanians can't appreciate fine Northern Italian food is hilarious.

Place is putrid these days.

Just discovered there's a Pei Wei 30 seconds from my apartment. Will check it out and report back, but slightly confused/disappointed that apparently I can't (or can't figure out how to) order a noodle bowl for take-out. eta: Nevermind I found it, it was hidden under "traditions."

My first experience was at the Pei Wei in the galleria area by my old apartment.

I got the thai dynamite, which I guess is like general tso chicken. Pretty good for what it is.

All I know is that the nutritional info doesn't look awful (depending on what you get), its on my way home, and its under $20 which means its getting expensed. It meets my baseline requirements.

Pei Wei is one of the few chain restuarants that I have no problem going back to. The food is pretty good and the service is good too (well, at least the one's I've been to in Arlington and Austin).

So Pei Wei is the Chipotle of Asian food. Sit-down restaurant decor, fast food prices and quality. For 5.75, I'm not complaining, just don't get your hopes up or anything. I would also recommend a bottle of Sirracha, even if you tell them to make it "hot." I guess nola is about to get introduced to this "upscale fast food" concept. It works in Houston, people here flip their shite over Chipotle.

Maybe they should open a Pei Wei by campus. Make all the other crappy Asian to go places go out of business (although Chinese Combo King is decent/the exception to the rule).

No no, see, that's the thing. The food is really not any better than your standard local cheap Chinese place, they just put nice tables and chairs and a pretty dining room in there instead of a walk-up counter. Again, the Chipotle model.

I'd like one of these in New Orleans. I prefer it to Izzos/Moes/Qdoba/Freebird. The only similar places I like better are Illegal Pete's and Cafe Rio.
