Why do soccer referees always seem so egrigiously bad?

I've always been kind of a fringe soccer fan, but over the last few years I've been getting more and more into it. By into it, I mean I watch National Team games, and huge European games. Every game I watch, the referees always play such a huge role because of some horrible call/non call that is egregiously fricking wrong. They're so bad it's like they're just trying to piss people off, they seem so absolutely clueless...like the ref in a WWE match that pretends not to see a tag team member hand the other guy a steel chair, then gets turned around, and misses the good guy get crushed with the chair. Referees/umpires/officials are all guilty of bad calls, I get that, but are all soccer referees/games like this? It's fricking infuriating.

Well, if you're watching the USA, it's because they hate us.

So USA Soccer and LSU have something in common then.
ESPN hates LSU
FIFA hate USA soccer

Like none? No one keeps track of this stuff? Seriously, are we (US fans) the only ones that see this is bad?

It's only against US.
It sure seems like that. Every USMNT game I watch, we get grossly fricked on at least two plays a match.

The best refs are in Europe, but they can't use Europeans for all FIFA matches.

Except there may be something to it with USA soccer.
I mean giving the World Cup Qatar is basically just giving America the middle finger.

Isn't there a FIFA rule that prohibits a ref from officiating a match involving his home country?

If I'm not mistaken there was a German sideline official during the Germany vs Brazil game, but the ref was from Hungary.

It makes watching soccer tough at times. I compare myself as a fan similarly to how the OP described himself, but that shite last night was infuriating.

I don't think that the assistant referees matter regarding that rule...just the main official.

I have a friend who played sports, and officiated high school and college basketball. He states, unequivocably...."ALL officials suck; some just suck less."
Mr. Jamaican Referee last night, cut us a break on 'Dolo's altercation.
But, as has been said, welcome to being a U.S. Supporter. These CONCACAF refs. seem to take out their hatred of our success, or international policies by fricking the soccer team. Same for FIFA, you KNOW they made a shite-ton of money in 1994 which was the most well-attended World Cup ever, at least up to that time. Japan/Korea 2002 probably topped it, but every venue was sold out for every match in 1994, and it wasn't just ticket sales, it was asses in seats.

The US WC still holds the record for highest attendance figures, thanks in part to our massive stadiums.
Also, Dolo was just trying to get the ball and then got swatted at, then pushed twice. He didn't do anything.
ETA: The WC attendance figures are even more impressive when you consider that only 24 teams played in that WC, not 32.

You need to go look at highlights from that WC. If Japan or Korea weren't playing, the stadiums were about 60% full.
