I doubt we are faster than Florida of '08. We are fast though.

I hate having the speed fight with other conferences. I'll say this only once: IT'S NOT THE frickING SKILL PLAYERS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT WHEN IT COMES TO SPEED. It's the fact that we have DEs that run 4.5s and DTs that run 4.7s. LBs that run 4.4s. What the OVERALL speed LSU puts on the field this year.

Oregon is a team of fast players but it's their tempo that sets them apart. Player for player there probably isnt a huge speed difference in any top program, at least at the skill positions.

Seconded as completely true. My point bringing up 2008 Florida is that in addition to the fact that guys like Dunlap and Hernandez were unreal, NO ONE has guys faster then Demps, Holiday, Rainey, etc. So even just looking at skill guys, this year's Oregon wouldn't measure up.

Exactly. Oregon cannot dream of having an advantage over us on turf, especially with time to prepare...

hese sound oddly familiar to the Cap 1 bowl 2 years ago and what LSU fans were saying so I don't know why that entertains you so much

So the crap 1 bowl is played in a dome? What did they do hose the field down for 3 days strait and tear the turf up? Guess they trucked mud in to.

Oregon has a fast front seven on defense...very fast.

Maybe you do Bison. We have 7 fast defensive tackles. That's the position I'm staking out. Man this game can't get here fast enough. My entire point is that your colleague said it is unlikely we played a faster team and I said we had--not whether Oregon is fast or not. If you have the goods on that Florida team or the 2003/4 Auburn teams, or the 2009/10 Alabama team, I'll be impressed.

I'll admit, one of the reasons I like the new PAC-12 format is it allows us to have another OOC game and that makes it much easier from a "math" stand point for more teams to be bowl eligible. 4 OCC wins plus 2 conference wins and you're "bowling". Couldn't do that under the PAC-10 format. So yes it's easier.

Wait hold on a sec. You did realize the pac 10 was only playing 11 games rt? I recall USC adding an extra ooc game so they play 12 regular season games. Correct me if im wrong. The sec was playing a harder schedule, so why dont they deserve to get in?

7 fast Defensive tackles - c'mon dude. You know those guys aren't running 4.7s. You have Freak, Brockers, Logan, Downs and Ferguson (are your throing in the kid that's not eligible - Mickey Johnson?). You boy Dennis Johnson isn't even in the three deep. You don't have 7 DT.

Best NFL combine time for DT was 4.8. Fairley ran a 4.83. Bair, Oregon, ran a 4.9 and was 4th. Bair was the fastest in the cone drill.

Taylor Hart from Oregon is faster than Bair. He will probably be a top 4 speed guy at this spot. Oregon will put speed out on the field. Florida of '08 speed - not likely.

Don't let facts ruin a good argument.

Problem is they're also small. We have a freshman DT that is 6'3 310lbs and runs a 4.7 with a serious mean streak.

Not sure if you were replying to me but the facts proved what I said originally. Heck I even have you repeating it

ETA: Not only is it not likely, it absolutely unequivocally won't be. You can't honestly look at that roster and tell me top to bottom 2011 Oregon has more speed. That is asinine and I think it is obvious to anyone who is being honest about it. It would be tough to find an LSU team with that kind of speed. Maybe 2006 or 2007? Probably not, though.

Our boys are fast, and I wouldn't be surprised if they are faster then Fairleys 4.83 by at least an entire second.

Cajun - not one DT ran faster than 4.8 at the combine...not even close to 4.7.

Do you guys have reading comprehension problem.

WDE - 240
NT - 321
DT - 300
SDE - 283

SAM - 232
MKE - 240
WIL - 225

That is not a small lineup.

Most of our DT's were running 4.9's coming out of High School. That means under TM's workout routine they have to at least be at the 4.8 mark if not better. Our DE's were running 4.6's on average. Match that size and speed...

NO - they make them gain weight. No strength and conditioning coach is going to care about a DT's 40 time dude.

I can guarantee that Remington, Hart and Ebert are about as fast as 280 - 290 kids get. They are as fast or faster than Bair who was the 4th fastest at the combine.

you got an answer for why it was easier for the sec? They were playing a much tougher schedule for years. USC was playing 11 games while the sec was playing 12 and the secc was playing 13. So the pac 10 added an ooc game. USC just did a good enough job to add quality opponents. Other teams could add scrubs also if they wanted.

This argument has kind of gotten lame. NO ONE IS SAYING OREGON ISNT FAST. But to suggest LSU has never experienced playing against that kind of speed is R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D!! As if our players are going to be left scratching thier heads in amazement. That may be the usual reaction of the foes in your conference but that is not the case in ours.

Several posters have made references to some exellent points that I think may be at work here.

(1) Perception becomes reality. Because Oregon runs a quick tempo offense, thus puts points on the board faster, has more big plays (catching defenses off guard or in mismatches do to tempo and scheme)..........that must mean the ducks have world class speed at every position on the field.

The truth is you have a very fast team but tempo and scheme exagerate that fact much more than it is.

(2) You dont play in a conference as universally regarded for having great all around speed.......especially on the defensive side of the ball. You got a small taste of it last year against Auburn but to be honest, the tigers of Alabama had some serious issues defensively last year. That defense was ranked in the bottom half of the conference in points allowed, yds/G.....and finished 11th in passing yards allowed.

Think it was tough scoring against Auburn? Think same speed and physicality along the defensive front then add what many believe may be one of the best secondaries in all of CFB.
