It's a good omen to sign a point guard named Collins in your first recruiting class at LSU. The last guy that did that was a legend.

Of course I'm speaking of John Brady, and the signing of DeJuan Collins, which foreshadowed the great things to come. Collins was a package deal with his JUCO coach, Donnie Tyndall, who is the new coach at Southern Miss.

something about this guy's shot reminds me of Marcus Thornton

I would have to disagree here.....his shot is way too slow to be compared to MT's.

Honestly, I'm not really that impressed. From most of the highlights I've seen, he just seems to exploit bad defenses and guards that cant move their feet. His shot is decent, but its fairly slow for a guard.

Yeah I'd just assume we go after Taylor and whoever else comes from the class of '13.

Notice the attendance. Collins should feel at home playing in the PMAC.

I certainly won't be disappointed if we sign Collins, but I would rather sign a graduate transfer guard for one year. That would open the scholarship back up for next year.

We don't need a starter, just a combo guard for depth. It would be tough to recruit an elite point guard next year with a junior and a sophomore returning at the position.

Chatchit,

Collins and Thornton have the similar release points on their shots. Doesn't appear to be a great athlete.

I guess he got a better offer. I always believed he was better than Samford.

If Manning calls I'd play for him.

Didn't see this Advocate story posted:

LINK

quote:

“We’d still like to add a post guy and another combo guard possibly,” Jones said.

quote:

If the season started tomorrow, LSU would have nine scholarship players on its roster. Walk-on senior Andrew Del Piero is also due back.

LSU can carry up to 13 players on scholarship under NCAA rules. But Jones said with Eddie Ludwig being the only senior on scholarship, he wants to make sure the Tigers have plenty of available spots for the 2013 recruiting class.

“What we’ve got to guard against is making sure we don’t just sign guys to sign them,” Jones said. “We’ve got to make sure we have quality guys in the program that are going to help us go where we’re trying to go. If not, we’re dealing with some issues for the next two or three years that may be a concern for us, especially if guys are not capable of playing at that level.”

quote:

Jones said Godfrey addresses a need in the post, but the Tigers have little experience returning down low and may still need some help there.

“We possibly need another post guy with a presence in there, someone who will be able to step in and help us right away,” Jones said.

Because he and his staff got such a late start recruiting the 2012 class, Jones said the Tigers would be attracted to the prospect of adding a veteran player who has graduated from another school and would arrive at LSU with one year of eligibility remaining.

I don't know. He was ineligible for his senior year, due to age. He either had academic problems, or wanted to go to a better school than his offers would allow. Perhaps a couple of years at JUCO will get him to a major college.

Corban Collins visiting LSU soon:

Not sure if I am reading this right, but it looks like Friday-Saturday for LSU.

LINK

quote:

"Next week we will go out to Oklahoma State, which has some interesting things going on," said Coach Clement. "Then we will go to LSU. I am putting it together right now. We want to watch them work out. I think Oklahoma State is Wednesdy-Thursday and Friday-Saturday."

quote:

"He is a fine kid," said Coach Clement. "Fundamentally is the most sound kid I have had. Corban has a pro mid-range game. And he is a 6'3" point guard. It is all about his intelligence. Does he want to get 10-15 points a game or will he set up guys?"

quote:

Leaders right now are UCF, LSU, and Oklahoma State. Cincinnati is just behind, still in contention.

"We are a little intrigued by LSU," said Coach Clement.
