Do y'all leave your mags loaded?

I hear talk that leaving the spring compressed will train it to not extend as far as it should as the magazine unloads. That said, it seems kinda pointless to have 5 or more mags laying around unloaded in case shite got real... really quick.

Thoughts?

well physics class taught me that springs do not loss their "spring" when leaving this compressed or not. they gradually loss it when going back and forth.

So you can wear them out, but not by leaving it compressed, you say?

An arguement presented in some other reading I was doing said a guy found a mag loaded since the vietnam war and it shot just fine 30+ years later. Only thing is that it was on the internet so I know he was telling the truth with 99.9% certainty.

My dad left the mag on for his remington 7600 fully loaded for the better part of 15 years (only time it got unloaded was when he ran em through the gun) and it never failed to feed.

Compression doesn't hurt them. You would have to compress them past the point of their intended use....loading 30 rounds in a 20 round mag. Try this and see if it works

Car Ramrod is correct.

Springs lose their strength from firing.

PSA announcement: A magazine has a spring. A clip does not have a spring. Just a pet peeve of mine.

What's an example of a clip then? Not being an arse, just curious.

Magazine feeds ammo to the weapon and a clip feeds ammo into the magazine.

Clips:

No point in having an empty magazine. All of them are loaded all of the time.

I have had the same question. I always kept mine loaded anyway, but it is nice to know that I am not ruining my mags.

Don't get AlexTgr started on clips and mags!
