I am rolling out of a garage after a vehicle inspection, and I have an LSU football t shirt on. A middle aged fellow stops me and says "LSU, huh? That's where JaMarcus Russell went, right?"

I answer in the affirmative, and remark that he was at least good in college. So the guy says, "Well, he had good receivers to throw to in college, Marques Colston and Anquan Bolden."

Yeah, I know, cool story. Whatever.

I don't know... Marques Colston and Anquan Bolden sounds just like Dwayne Bowe and Early Doucet.

I have a cool story about that too.

The Thursday after LSU was picked to play tOSU in 2007 I was waiting for a meeting to start at work. The guy next to me, a graduate of Villanova (go figure) said, "Hey, didn't you go to LSU? Did you realize your alma mater is playing in the national championship?"

No, dumbfrick, I wasn't parked in front of the TV set to watch the selection show like any SEC fan would. Not at all. No, I've been living under a rock all week and had no idea.

Hmmmmm, there are plenty of areas that know college football. Ohio area, Texas, Oklahoma all know their football.

dude, was that you walking with your girl over by the hospitals that I yelled "Tigahs!" at?

probably not, but I doubt there were many in the Boston area wearing LSU football shirts today.

The game or the players? How many LSU head coaches from the south have won National Championships?

I'm far more disappointed when I meet an LSU guy who I can't talk football with. What a waste. A guy from LSU accepted a similar job in the office where I was a student worker in Miami. It was when LSU opened the college football season against Mississippi State on Thursday night. I ducked into his office that Thursday and asked him what he was doing for the game, and he didn't even know there was a game that night.

Your headline should read "do not know COLLEGE football". They know pro football and the game itself just as well as people anywhere else. With only 2 FBS teams (3 starting in 2012) in the entire six-state region, there just has never been decent media coverage to even add to the exposure.
