Ok, i had no idea how long the LPGA courses are as I don't follow womens golf that closely.
I only judge by how close the red tees are at the courses I see and they are like 5,000-5,500
I take back what I said earlier. A 6,900 yard course isn't long enough to make the difference between a pro womens golfer and scratch male. You are only talking about maybe 30 yards per hole longer. They would still reach all of the holes in regulation and the pro's putting and chipping would be the difference.

Last year the scoring average for the 100th female on the LPGA was 73.75.
The average yardage for an LPGA Tour golf course is between 6,200 and 6,400 yards.
Take that for what it's worth.

A zero handicap is only shooting par or the course rating 20% of the time. If you average shooting par on an 6900 yard course you will be around a +2 or better. The LPGA member is averaging 73.75 which is probably right at or below the course ratring.

Far too many of ya'll don't understand handicaps, slope, and course ratings.

6200-6400 yards is driver-flip wedges all day long, scratch golfers should be able to handle even par easily

my is 0
and I'm confident I could torch a 6200-6400 yard course with good greens

Yep. For example, I used to be a 1 handicap and was averaging around 76.

and you were probably playing courses 1000 yards longer than the women

whoops, got in a hurry

Shooting even par on a 6200-6400 yard golf course with a rating below par will not make you a zero index. Most courses that short unless tricked out will have a very low course rating around 68.

Exactly.

they suck even worse?
pretty sure they aren't playing 6200-6400 yard courses with ratings at 77 from that yardage

A zero index will only shoot par/course rating 20% of the time while she is averaging 73-74 which is probably below the rating. She is a plus handicap and is probably 2-4 strokes better than a scratch. A scratch golfer depending on the rating will shoot the rating or better 20% of the time and the other 80% who knows. A scratch golfer on a 72 rating will probably average 74-78 with scores ranging from 70-82 or more.
Female rating is different than male. If the both shoot the 20 exact same scores from the same tees, the female will have a lower index. My home course ladies tees are 5000/5600 and a 69/72 rating. I assume an LPGA 6400 yards can easily be around 75-77 under tournament setup.

I think we will get a good idea soon enough, just saw the US Women's Open is scheduled to be played at 7000 yards or close to it
Posted on 7/7/11 at 5:48 pm to Shankopotomus
It is in Colorado so you can take about 500-700 yards off. Castle Pines played over 7300 yards when most courses were still below 7000 back in the 90s.

Good point, I didn't consider that aspect. Not sure if it's 500 yards different in that atmosphere, but never having played gokf at that altitude I'll relent to others on that one
