In response to the useless gimmicky kitchen gadget...

What is your favorite kitchen gadget/utensil/tool that you couldn't live without?

Mine.

I use a wooden spoon to stir roux because it doesn't make any noise against the iron pot. A metal spoon makes the wife think I'm sharpening a knife.

Is a Dutch Oven considered a gadget?

I have that exact knife. Love it.

As for the thread, I don't use it a lot, but I really love my potato ricer. I just think it's fun to use and love the results as well.

How much did it run you and where can I buy one?

And to answer the question I get pretty good use out of my

Mini food processor
Immersion blender

Not really a gadget but I have this little spice carrying kit from an indian grocery store

Looks similar to that one. That's not mine.

I don't think I could live without tongs since I'm usually cooking some chicken thighs or legs in my karahi and I find tongs are the easiest for turning

Holy ginormous picture Batman!

I would have to agree that my favorite is my Wushtof santoku. I treat it like it's my baby.

Now if I could only get my wife to stop putting it in the dishwasher.

Of course I use other items more often, but a personal favorite is my oroshi-gane

There are no holes in it, but rather it makes a sort of puree. Traditional ones use real shark's skin. I grate wasabi, horseradish, ginger and daikon on mine.

My black iron pot is 32 or 33 years old too. Dad gave it to me.

Yeah I've got some that were my great grandmother's, those things have to be 70+ yrs old and they still cook like a champ.

Gotta love a cast iron dutch oven.

Wife gave it to me for Christmas. She went that route and I'm pretty sure that's about the deal she got.

Rubber circle to open jars. Got it free from a bank or something.

I put my thumb through a mandelin about 20 seconds after I started using it.

I'll never buy one again.

Man those kitchen aid mixers really are great if you do a lot of baking.

Yeah, it will give you are real hard lesson real quick on the use of the palm over the fingers. We've all had those lessons. I had one with a dull narrow blade knife I knew I shouldn't have been using to cut up some onions real quick, and spent the next half hour with my hand raised above my head in a wad of paper towels.

Cooking too. Comes in real handy for a lot of applications, and the attachments are flippin awesome too. Got a pasta roller that gets well used.

I used to use my mom's one all the time. She never cooks anymore. I should just steal it.

She likes to give them out as wedding presents. Maybe I'll get married and get one.
