I seek accounting assistance from the MT gurus

So, I have been tasked with creating a statement of cash flows, which is something that I haven't done in at least 3 years. I was provided with year end balance sheets from 08 and 09, as well as quarterly P&L statements from 09. I've been instructed to "create a detailed cash flow statement using the indirect method for the period January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010". Am I missing something here? How can I do 2010 without creating pro forma financial statements?

Wouldn't you need the 2010 year end numbers?

I don't see how I wouldn't. I'm thinking it's some kind of mistake, either a typo or they didn't send the full amount of data. I was afraid to ask though for fear of looking like an idiot.

Just ask them if they forgot to attach the 2010 trial balance, and if they reply "why would you need that?", you're in trouble.

This is for a job interview at a PE firm. The other people who work there are all CFAs with the exception of their CFO who is a CPA, so I'm a little intimidated and trying to tread lightly.

They must have meant dec 31 2009.

That. 1/1/09-12/31/10 is 2 years, doubt that's what they're looking for.

The correct answer is to lean forward and whisper "How do you want it to read?"

January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010"
No other way it could be.

so I'm a little intimidated and trying to tread lightly.
BTW, I didn't read through the entire thread before I gave you my first reply above, which was redundant because the same answer was obviously already given by other posters.
