If they had major concerns on that spot, they would be on that thing around the clock
Every time I pass I don't see anyone there.

this is frightening. I hope it's not as bad as this video seem's to make it look.

You need to zoom in closer.

I dont doubt something is there but 1000 ft from the levee is pretty far for a sand boil.
DPW guy on the morning news said anything within 1500 feet of the levee is of concern

Seems like they could drive some sort of shallow, large diameter caisson in order to contain the discharge and (hopefully) equalize the head.
On second thought, the flow would probably just find another path to atmospheric.....but it could work (maybe sandbag berms would work too).

I'm calling BS, it's so zoomed in there is no perspective ... probably a garden hose someone set up to make a hoax!

I lived in Riverbend Lakes Subdivision during the 1997 flood. My property was very close to the back end of Farr Park and I can tell you that even though I did not have anything close to what is in that video happening, the water table was so high that you could dig a hole in the ground less than a foot deep and have water fill it up within minutes. I could very well see how water could be boiling up in this area from such high water.

This is not a hoax, and if you lived in this subdivision, you would know that there are sand boils all around the neighborhood. Most are clear water, which is good. There haave been confirmed sightings of 3 muddy boils, including this one. As noted earlier, the entire area around this boil collapsed into a sink hole on Sunday. I will try and get over there today to take pics of the area.

I just think if there was really any concern about this, the tv crews would be there non-stop playing up the drama.
That kind of stuff makes for great ratings.

BTW a sand boil is water that makes its way under a levee correct?
Posted on 5/19/11 at 8:40 am to LSURoss
Yes. If clear, not much concern. If muddy, a concern, because it could be river water. Btw, the water smells very brakkish.

I asked GOHSEP about this sand boil on facebook (and linked to the video) and this was their response:
Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness The USACE & Ponchatrain Levee District are aware of the sand boil and have been out to the site perform their flood fight mission. They are also visiting this site daily and will continue to monitor it. If anyone has any sandboils to report in the EBR area please contact your EBR Office of Emergency Preparedness at (225) 389-2100. Thanks!

good.Let's hope this is not an indicator of problems.
My folks live in the U-club and any levee failure would hit there pretty fast.

That's scary as shite! At the levee there has been water leaking up from the middle of River Road then draining back across the northbound lane for over a week now. There's also a good bit of standing water in many ditches down that way. If there's going to be a problem, it looks like that's where it will be.
