just went to see the sand boil. Not a threatening feel, but neat to see. area about 20 feet across of "crater" with 2 areas of water boiling up. Pretty steady flow of water but fortunately it is right next to a big drainage ditch that carries water away from our neighborhood.

would have to say the water boiling up looks muddy. But, the area where it is coming up is alongside a drainage ditch and where you see the water bubbling is within a little pool. It is very possible that the water coming through is clear but the surrounding mud and grit makes the whole area appear muddy.

Let's hope this is the case...

According to information received over the weekend, these boils are linked to historical problems associated with Duncan Point, which is a part of the levee adjacent to the Horse Activity Center. Jay Grimes told us on Sunday that the ACoE had identified 120 problem areas along a 300 mile stretch of the levee which includes Baton Rouge, and that Duncan Point is one of the top 3 in terms of seriousness. They say they're on it, and that it is being monitored 24/7. No one has said what if anything can be done about it.

If the Army Corps of Engineers is reading this, and is pissed about this info being stated, don't blame me. Blame Jay Grimes.

Can you tell me exactly where to find these? I am not sure if you can private message me. I joined this board days ago strictly to engage in the flood board.

Depends on where he tailgates at. If it's between the levee and Death Valley, that could all be flooded since it's all in the floodplain. If this boil caused a breach by the horse farm, the rushing water would easily push out to the edge of the old bluff (Tiger Stadium sits at the foot of it) even though it's north of the breach.

In this scenario, would downtown be flooded as well?

These are next to a ditch that runs alongside Beau Pre'. These boils are back toward the Farr Park Horse complex. They are in a wooded area -- but houses are visible on the other side of the ditch. I think those houses are in Beau Pre.

from riverbend subdivision you can go to the park at the end of Riverbend Lakes road. If you walk down the road to the ditch at the end, you can see where the area is blocked off.

Very possibly. Land seems to rise a little between the vet school and the interstate. Not sure if it's for real or just my eyesight playing tricks on me :p

The thing about downtown though is that it drops off from being on the bluff on 3rd street to being floodplain on river road (or whatever it is called downtown), so only things like the river side of the Hilton would be effected to any extent.
