UNO launching football program

UNO is currently in the midst of a transition to NCAA Division II and will add women's golf, as well as cross country during the fall of 2011.
The addition of these sports will enable the University to reach the 10 sport requirement that is necessary to be in compliance with Division II membership. Over the next four years, the University anticipates adding football and women's soccer. There is also potential for adding softball and men's soccer.

Nice. They'll probably outdraw Tulane, although Tulane and recent recruiting looks to be on the upswing.

they could possibly be a very good D2 program with all the Louisiana/Mississippi talent that falls through the cracks

Definitely, especially since they've already announced that they're going to be a member of a pretty good D-II football conference.

Try clicking on the link next time - it's the bill proposal to merge SUNO & UNO and rename it to the University of Louisiana at New Orleans after it is merged into the University of Louisiana system.
