Hey guys,
Will be in Baton Rouge this weekend. Would like your advice for best area gun/hunting store to visit. Hope to go to Cabela's since I've never seen one and would also like to check out Bass Pro, as well. I get to BR VERY infrequently so have no idea where else to go. Would like to look around at guns in general w/ an emphasis on handguns. Would also like to shop for handloading supplies, including powder. What do you suggest?

these guys are good, i have been here a couple times and they have a nice selection and good service

Spillway Sportsman in Brusly is good too, good service, but a little pricey.

one of my buddies loves Jim's Firearms, i have never been but he's always going there.

my experience with Cabela's and Bass Pro, you usually have to pull a number and wait to speak to someone and when you do get to talk to someone they are rushing trying to get to the next person.. thats just my experience.. im sure its better most of the time they could have just been busy.

i have bought all my guns from Spillway Sportsman. like i said its a little more pricey but the service is great.

I can't tell you about Cabelas since there isn't one in Memphis but as for BPS, you will find better deals on guns elsewhere. And they aren't always the most knowledgable regardless of what they say. You might find one that knows what he's talking about but if you are sure about it yourself you won't know if he knows what he's talking about or not.

Jim's probably has the largest in stock gun selection in the south. Their prices can be a little high, but if you want it they probably have it in stock.

Thanks for the suggestions. I agree w/ everyone's assessment of BPS. Unless you catch something on sale, the gun prices at our local BPS are high. I've never been to a Cabela's so I'd like to check it out. Probably won't buy any guns wherever I go, but there are some guns I'd like to look at and handle, nevertheless.

Jim's has PLENTY good stuff

Not sure why, but I have never bought a gun from them though. The store is worth seeing for sure.

In addition, do any of the BR area stores have lead (cast) bullets, esp 45 caliber?

Not a fan of Jims, Bowie is cool, also try out Hebert's guns in Prairieville (pretty close to cabelas)

I can agree with that. Bought a gun there a few weeks ago that I couldn't find anywhere else. They have a lot to choose from, and from my experience, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

I think that is the first good thing Ive heard about that place, pretty much everything Ive heard is bad.

I dont think I would ever let them touch my stuff with a 10 ft pole.

And of course Bass Pro and Cabelas are fun to go to also.

If you ever find yourself in or around Bastrop, Simmons is the shite.
