I don't think he was referring to the people who want to see improvement, because that would be everyone. I think he is referring to that small group of people who say, "Fire Trent Johnson now!"

I am not saying that Trent needs to be fired right now either. I am, however, puzzled as to why people think this team is much better next year.

Think about it, in post season tourneys, roughly half of all BBall teams make it to a tourney. LSU was not even within laughing range of any tourney this year.

I will be somewhat surprised if LSU even gets a NIT invite next year.

Please tell me what guys Trent Johnson missed out on? I think that there are about 2 Louisiana players starting or playing an important role on other Division 1 teams, and none of them are in the tournament, so they aren't that big of a difference maker.

This is the biggest problem I have with a lot of the TJ haters. People think they know recruiting b/c they follow football recruiting, but football recruiting and basketball recruiting are two totally different animals.

In football you start recruiting a player in his Jr. year of HS. Basketball starts in their Soph. year at the latest, meaning you have to have a relationship with both the kids and people in the area for YEARS in order to really recruit well.

TJ basically had to stay home in La. to recruit his first few seasons b/c he hasn't built the relationships in other areas to land recruits. Unfortunately for him, La. has been pretty barren the last few years. Now you can see he is building relationships in the area with Turner (Ala.) and O'Bryant (Miss.) both coming to LSU.

That combined with the increase in talent in-state should be enough (in theory) to help keep this program in the right direction

That is BS on the having to stay in Louisiana. In Dale's first few years before the program was established he brought in Kenny Higgs-Ky, Rudy Macklin-KY, Greg Cook-NJ, DeWayne Scales-TX.

Of course Dale had this crazy notion of going out and promoting the program and hiring assistants who were damn good recruiters.

Trent Johnson is a proven winner. Anyone who can make a run with Stanfords talent is a good coach. I too have heard that he wants to build a team of young talent up together and has even passed on Juco players to keep scholly's open to sign young guys in the next years recruiting class. In the short term, yes we're going to suck and there with be haters who want instant gratification. In the long run, LSU can be built into a good program by somebody who knows how to build from the ground up. Look at San Diago State, they are a powerhouse (arguably) and sucked the first few years that their coach was there. He's now been there 12 years and has built a fairly good program. Give TJ at least 5 years and see what we've got. Start the evaluation then.

Trent can't get players money/benefits the way Dale used to.

This doesn't make sense. Just look at St. John's. They are the perfect example.

What does recruiting 25 years ago have to do with today?

I'll keep this signature I have and I'll add you to it later. So that next year I can call both of you out for thinking this guy is a good coach.

I don't have sigs turned on and if you care enough to do that it just goes to show me the type of person you are. I've never seen you post once on this board concerning the basketball team and now you want to be the "I told you so" guy. Give me a break douche.

i guess that guys a "true LSU fan" b/c he wants to keep comments like that around in hopes that he's right so he can crow about it later. I'm actually a fan of Trent, but if i disliked him, i'd rather my opinion of him be wrong (meaning he's a good coach) rather than prove myself right that he sucks. some fan

Last in the SEC two years in a row? Sorry no excuse when you are the only major college in the state.

Remember, in addition to O'Bryant, 6-11 transfer Justin Hamilton becomes eligbile & hopefully, there will be improvement in the point guard position. There should be no place to go but up, but if this team's record next year resembles this season's record in any way, Trent should be gone without a doubt.

Look at UNC, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, etc...for the most part filled with underclassman.

i wish people would stop saying this like it makes any sense. go and look at Stanford's bball history the last 20 years or so. They are not chopped liver and get good talent.

Oh just that if you have some guys who can recruit and know the area and are a little dynamic as opposed to what we have now.

I think it is pathetic that after 3 recruiting classes we have one SEC caliber player on the team. Two if you count Warren but he was brought in by Brady.

I'm on board.

As I've stated numerous times, with a JuCo point guard... it's a different team entirely.

Our SECOND unit next year could be:

Stringer, Dotson, Derenbecker, White & Green

with Ludwig, Bass, Isaac and Courtney BEHIND that group.

Yeah, different team.

That said, f he can't get to 19-20 wins, the SEC Semis and in contention for an NCAA spot he needs to go.

Also, I don't think LSU basketball is a job that will garner a lot of attention from good college coaches if we start firing coaches without giving them a chance to rebuild.

Start firing? Hasn't 2 coaches already been fired in the past 3 years?
