Key word in that statement.Plus those are more recent rumors anyways
It wasn't the fact that he (his company really) was paid, it was the fact that Oregon paid $25K for services regarding to only Seastrunk. That is not the normal price for tapes/scouting on one region or state much less one player. LSU may not continue to use his services anymore, but there was nothing "dirty" about it

The number for many seems to be the problem. Well, it really isn't anymore when other services are charging that much as I just found out. LINK
The scenario isn't the same mind you but it kind of deflates the whole numbers thing which some want to hang onto.

You're talking to those people right? I am not one of them. I don't want to be downright dirty but I realize certain things are the way they are.

Just putting it out there, not directed at you!
There are obvious grey areas in recruiting. If we aren't doing them, Alabama/Florida/Texas will. There is nothing that has been said about us that is illegal.

This is about as dirty as selling a champ ring for a tattoo.
I say death penalty to all

Here's an idea lets just mirror the NFL and not play football in 2011

This is legal and that isn't. Having your coach outright lie isn't what the vest and the glasses have been portraying. We haven't seen your teams receipts yet, we will.
I say, and I'm sure I'm not alone, that you should be permabanned.

Expect Dr. Drunkenstein to demand a link from you. He believes that Texas is quite innocent in all this and recruiting in general.

Scam Newton has created a witch hunt
The Cam Newton situation has actually made these things trivial, there's no witch hunt.
Thayer Evans simply needs to gratuitously throw some other schools names around so that his vendetta against Auburn doesn't seem like a witch hunt.

How many schools can you be a "booster" for? If a person at one of these recruiting services recommends 100 athletes to 100 different universities is he considered a "booster"?
I could see if a guy was sending every top player to Oregon or LSU that he might be considered a booster. But when players are signing all over the nation, I just don't buy it. The guy may be shady as heck, but that just doesn't seem like he is a "booster" in the traditional sense of the word.

im with you here
some are being kind of naive about the "underworld" of major college football.
Most accept it in basketball for some reason

LSU could save a lot of money and not pay these firms and just get on the rant to see who has the talent

I am not buying this. Are you saying LSU doesn't possess the ability to scout it's own talent or that every school needs a street agent to deliver said talent?
Yes LSU cannot possibly have the man power to send scouts out to every JUCO, and high school to see the wealth of talent that's out there. It's simply impossible. Every school pays these companies that can condense all the info that they need. It's just the same as a head hunting firm that schools use for coaching searches. The companies know where the talent is and who to talk to. The points of contact to get in touch with said recruit and so on. It's getting someone to do all the leg work for the staff so they can have sessions in the office where they review tapes and info.

How come they charged us $6000 but Oregon had to pay $25k.....THAT is what makes me fell Oregon deal is fishy more so than ours.

OP is semi right. Everything is blown out of proportion with the whole paying for recruiting services. If they just paid Lyles for tapes, they are fine obviously. It's whether he actually helped a player sign an LOI. If that's true, then LSU is in some shyte
Posted on 3/16/11 at 2:51 am to LSU77
It sounds like $6k is the usual price paid and what most schools pay for these packages. LSU is far from the only school doing this. Now as for the $20k Oregon paid? That doesn't seem above board.

The most revealing part of that article, IMO is that the kids high school coach new more about NCAA compliance/following the rules than Brick.
