A lot of it is coaching as well

You just don't see many great coaches up here like you would down south

???
Please explain this. Because from what i've seen, South LA is way more populated than North LA. That may have a lot to do with the talent difference, but North LA has plenty of good coaches. And I would say they do way more with less. Haynesville and Evangel are in contention to be in the Dome every year. Plus West Monroe if you want to count them. That's 3 of the 5 classifications(1A,2A,5A) that are normally owned by North LA.

I was speaking more to the public schools of the NW LA area, specifically Bossier and Shreveport

and no, there's not many great ones that can develop players to their maximum potential. There are some good ones though.

Hey thanks for the props for Northwood, my son goes there now. Not much on Football now, good ones get recruited to Evangel of Calvary.
But you are right about baseball, several the last few years have gone to the big leagues.
also Hal Sutton

As far as Booker T, they are down to only about 400 students. For public schools Byrd is really the sad story. One would think with a student body of almost 2,000 and the ability to recruit out of their district, they would turn out a few.
Last one I can think of that was big time was Arnez Battle.

I played at Benton in the early 2000's. I would say coaching is a big issue in the area. I had very good coaching at Benton, albeit very conservative on offense. Benton was usually the smallest team on the field, and very rarely the fastest, yet we still managed to have great seasons. We were usually very outmatched when it came to size and speed, yet would demolish teams because of horrible coaching/discipline.

I'll give you that. It's been the same way at Airline for a long time. The offenses were very boring, the veer/wing-t offenses. Defenses were very stingy cause the kids weren't scared to lay a hit. But coaching rarely had anything to do with that.

Also, a lot of Evangel's talent comes from Airline's district.

Hal was several years ahead of me and his sister (can't remember her name) was a couple years ahead as well. She was damn fine too!

Always loved going over to Northwood CC and playing a few rounds. Miss that place.

Evangel and Calvary were always tough but I'm still surprised at the decline of football talent there.

I promise it's not to do with coaching at schools like Byrd, Shreve, Airline, Parkway, and Benton. The problem is there really isn't the talent. Lineman are so hard to come by up here. That when we play people from down south it's tough to compete. We have guys who can run, Fobbs is at LSU, Claiborne LSU, Curtis Carter was a big recruit who went to TCU. If Fleming could have stayed out of jail LSU. It's the big boys.....we just don't have them.

Shreveport isn't Baton Rouge, NOLA, or Monroe from a talent standpoint, but IMO it tops Laffy/LC and Alexandria.

I don't know about that. We have Carencro, Acadiana, STM, even Northside, and if LHS ever got there stuff together they are the biggest school in the state.

Actually, there is nothing 'recent' about the lack of prospects. These schools haven't put out D-1 material for about 30 years.

Even when David Woodley was at Byrd it was a really bad FB team and his parents didn't want him to play FB.

The heyday of Shreveport FB ended when Joe Ferguson graduated and went to Ark.

Schools like Green Oaks, BTW, Fair Park, Woodlawn and Southwood have very few students who are academically qualified.

White kids who are athletic and would have been FB players 30 years ago are now going to Byrd, Shreve, Loyola and Caddo Magnet and they are playing LaCrosse, Soccer, Baseball, Tennis and Golf. Same with Parkway in Bossier.

Airline in Bossier would have a great team but most of their top players have gone to Evangel or Calvary.

There is going to be a major star coming up from Haughton. I post that little tweak once a year. Will not tell you his name till it's time. He is not related to me at all.

He's still in elementary school about to go to MS and he's got great genetics and terrific coaching from age 5.

I'd project him as a 6-4, 230 QB in HS and he has LSU stuff all over his house.

Evangel is already trying to recruit him away from Haughton.

He plays in all of them.

Edit: I see from your bio that you're football and basketball.
Kid plays in football and baseball. Not basketball.

I graduated from Benton also and played ball. We always had huge defensive ends and a pretty good defense all around. The skill positions were stacked it was just the small lineman we had, although big lineman aren't needed much for the wing-t.
