Figured I would catch some shots of autumn color before its all gone. Supposed to get some snow accumulations this week, kind of early this year.

This is looking across the Gastineau Channel toward Douglas Island. The area I live is in the background, that is my "neighborhood."

Temps have gone down and the rain has finally shown up so it shouldn't be long.

Supposed to get some accumulation this week, which is kind of early. Saw some mixed rain and snow friday. Normally don't get it down in the valleys until after Halloween.

Great pictures as always. How much longer until you think that you'll have snow covering the lower elevations?

Hard to say. It normally doesn't start hanging around for good until about mid November, and even then we can get some warm spells.

I haven't seen this kind of weather in mid October before, it's about 10 degrees below the normal temperature. This maritime climate usually keeps it moderated.

Early freeze up this year. Only a few rivers and one particularly deep lake aren't frozen yet. Even parts of the intertidal zone has ice.

Mendenhall River. Parts are still ice free

Auke Lake, Ice free still

Mendenhall Lake, already frozen over

Spent most of the last week in the Caribbean at the Island of Antigua. The purpose of the trip was for a friend's wedding. We spent 3 days at the Sandal's and then another 2 days in English Harbour, just the wife and I. English Harbour was used by the British for many years as a port to repair sailing ships headed to and from the Caribbean and until cruise ships came into port yesterday we were the only Americans around. The busy season starts in the next couple of weeks and we were told that the ports would be full of yachts from around the world shortly.

Fritz Cove. Tidewater, so it's relatively ice free all winter

Twin Lakes are fresh water, freeze up.

Look man, you're in Alaska and can take a picture of a damn beer can and it will have more scenery than 90% of the people here will see. Stop making us look bad.
