I know at one time he had the most points from a freshman while Pete had the Soph, Jr and Sr record
Pistol could not play varsity ball as a freshman. They had separate freshman teams.

...CJ - one of the best ( maybe THE best ) to play at LSU hoops ..
...I saw him many times. He was scintillating!

CJ could actually shoot free throws too
Yep. 90% + IIRC

The shot at :58 was a game winner:
2/25/89 LSU-88 UNLV-87

I was always amazed that we had CJ Shaq and Stanley Roberts all on the same team and we didnt even when the SEC. Two seven footers and CJ could sink em from anywhere.

Same here. I had this fantasy that in the rare event Jackson missed a shot, the twin towers would be there to clean up. There was no way we weren't going to win a NC.

Went to Dale Brown's basketball camp 2 years in a row and got his autograph on the SI magazine and met all the other players including Shaq. It was bad arse watching those guys play a pick up game that close.

Just watched the Shaq videos you posted on page 3.
I swear, every time I see videos someone posts from the Deaf Dome years at LSU they bring tears to my freakin eyes.(no kidding, I had to dry my eyes) I was 11-13 when Shaq and CJ were playing. I can't tell you how excited I got to watch every single game. The ones that weren't on TV i tuned into the radio and listened. CJ would hit a big shot or something and I would go bananas in my living room jumping around and hollering lol.
Loved Vernel, Mo Williamson, Mike Hansen, Justin Anderson, Stanley, Harold, Ghert(sp), Caesar, ... all of them. Gave the kids around here something to be proud of. Made us all dream of playing basketball at LSU.
Vernel could jump out of the gym. Saw him clobber an ole miss player on a fast break dunk, I swear Vernel was at the rim and nearly horizontal in mid air. Looked like superman.

Chris was the best college player I have seen in my lifetime.
I wasn't alive for Pistol, but I realize what he is to his generation. He is the best college player ever. No doubt.

My freshman year at LSU. Amazing.

true, another thing about the Pistol, he shot over 90% from the foul line for his career at LSU
Not even close. He was a career 77.5% FT shooter at LSU and 82.0% in the NBA. Petes numbers are great but they are really inflated by the number of times he shot the ball.
Pete averaged around 45 shot attempts a game factoring in freethrows because getting fouled on a shot does not count as a FGA.
On the other hand Chris Jackson averaged around 25 shot attempts factoring in freethrows. CJ was a better pure shooter from the field and the free-throw line. What's impressive to me is he did standing 6'1" 170lbs while Pete was 6'5". Give CJ 20 more shots a game and he would have averaged over what Pete.
Not trying to bash Pete because he was great and a legend but just making a point his numbers are inflated and percentage wise ok

I played against Ceaser in high school.
But back to the point. Those were special times for LSU basketball. Dale Brown screwed away a NC with that squad. Anyone else remember the Tennessee brawl that basically closed out Shaq's career?

I was at CHS BR for those years and my Dad and I went to almost every home game. The Deaf Dome was amazing. The Loyola Marymount game in 89 was really special.

... the PMAC was rocking well before Jackson and Shaq. The late '70s and early '80s were unbelievable.

Didn't Dale Brown take a shot at one of the Tennessee players?

Oh yeah! Rudy Macklin, Howard Carter, Cookie-man Greg Cook, Ethan Martin, Leonard Mitchell, Willie Sims, Johnny Jones--final four. Wasn't their average margin of victory that year something ridiculous--20+? That year and those around it were crazy--I was lucky to be a student during that time.
