I agree. For Brandon to claim that Hoke was Plan A all along tends to make me feel somewhat insulted as a fan.

It's a shame since it displays the UM athletic department still has an element of disarray that threatens the stability of your football program.

I do think Hoke is a good hire, though.

YES!

Lost a bet, got leniency, and I'm back...

And I really hate the Cowboys!

I love having two threads right by each other that contradict each other. It's Chicken v. Brandon.

FWIW, I'll take Chicken.

Brandon's an AD at a storied program who just hired someone from San Diego State and who is insisting said coach from San Diego State is their first choice.

He's trying to save face in the middle of a fandom shite storm, because if Hoke was their first choice, the dude should be fired.

To assume low-ball is to not be a school that allows the idiocy of Alabama and the like to dictate overpaying for a coach.

Low-ball = a reasonable offer to most that was below Les' current Salary. I am not saying their intent was to use Les as some cover. I think honestly, they figured to offer him what they felt was reasonable (I'd guess around $2.5M to $3M/year) with less guaranteed money than he has here. Les obviously thought about it and probably said "Thanks, but no thanks".

Why is that so hard to grasp? I am sure LSU's AD and board freaked and pulled a Bertman overpaying AGAIN to keep Miles.

Les made a smart business move for him and his family. Both sides will spin it how they want though.

The Michigan offer was more than he makes but by a small amount.

BP, back to Crowton for a sec, just outta curiosity, we looking at an out and out firing? reassignment? retirement?

also, besides Kragz, who we looking at? I know you'd brought up Leach before.

Oh they asked him if he was interested. Trick is there was never a formal offer. They also respects Miles advice and suggestions for otther spots on threir staff. As far as crowton I heard two different scenarios. One is if we don't hear thunder next week of him stepping down or retiring then he will be here at least one more season to have a shot at a championship. The other is they are waiting until after signing day in case change scares off some offensive recruits. I'm leaning towards to fore mentioned theory.

So, this would be intentionally misleading recruits? Sounds pretty damn shady to me.

that's why i'm not buying that rumor. not Miles style. which is one of the reasons why I'm glad he stayed. witnessing what happened at USC and Auburn i am glad we have a stand up coach who runs a respectable program.

Yeah, I may not like Miles' coaching skills, but he's a pretty honest dude overall. I just couldn't see him leading on another kid after the screw job that happened to Elliot Porter this year and the ESPN OTL backlash added on to it.

I can be 100% truthful in saying that if Brandon's first choice was Hoke it wasn't because he believed he was the better coach.. it was because mary sue and carr dictated his first choice. I have read several other posts etc that Miles would have come if they had given him a nice contract offer and Patterson was interested in hearing from them as well. I believe that msc and alot of the big boosters and carr were not happy with the outsiders that were brought in (rr) and demanded a "michigan man" Les was given a good offer but not one they believed he would accept.. Harbaugh was never really a possibility and they knew it so Hoke probably was the plan A.. if les takes the good but not great offer then they get a great deal for him otherwise its Hoke.

Did Miles want to have the Carr influence in the program minimized or eliminated as part of the deal?
