So tech would or would not be on the list, cause I don't even see them in the same conversation

no such thing - when the school calling is your alma mater
Kansas and NC are pretty equivalent programs IMO - but Roy Williams had to come when momma called (bear bryant reference)

How do not put Oklahoma on that list? Stoops has had offers
The same reason I didn't put LSU on the list. It is widely accepted that Stoops would be interested in the Notre Dame job if he was ever approached about it. I think his lack of success on the BCS level (outside of the NC and UConn) scared ND away last time they had an opening. How can LSU be on the list when we have our coach flirting with another program?
Whether your alma mater comes calling or not, if you are at a shcool on that list, you do not leave for other colleges, period.

exactly.. this very same exception would apply to all these schools except for maybe Notre Dame

I think it really depends on the coach and not the program. The only reason Miles leaving is an issue is because of his ties to Michigan. If Michigan had a headcoach who was an LSU guy or a Florida guy they would likely leave if the opportunity called.
Myself I want to be a college prof one day and would teach at Michigan over more prestigious jobs like MIT and Stanford simply because my ties to Michigan.

When's the last time an LSU coach left for another college job? Deitzel?

Definitely.

And Bill Self would leave if Duke/NC came calling his name as well.
In basketball, the coaching gigs are Duke and UNC and that is it. ALOT of programs on the doorstep, but those two jobs are elite.

Not a college football head coach.

99 times out of 100 MIT would never call on you. Academic inbreeding is at its finest at MIT and other New England elite schools. As good as Michigan is in economics and computer technology and such, MIT could give a rats arse about you.
Either way, a coach does not think like you do.

JMO - that's nonsense
Coach K is Duke basketball and Dean Smith was NC basketball
Kentucky has won with more different coaches and UCLA has won more period
There are a lot of blue-blood coaching jobs in basketball and football... which one you want depends on not just the innate advantages of the programs but also the personal history of the coach (where he grew up and went to school for example)

7 football programs a HC would never leave for another college gig
Notre Dame
USC
Florida
Alabama
Texas
tOSU
Michigan
Dennis Franchione left bama for Texas A&M. And yeah, he left on the heels of some stinky stuff in tideland but if bama is a program that a HC would NEVER leave for another college gig, I'm sure he could've waited it out if it was that great.

Some of you are getting the OP confused with OVERALL program prestige. I am not saying that Duke and UNC are the two best programs, BUT, rather the two best gigs.
Boise State has won more college games and most of the schools on my list in the last 5 seasons, and probably more BCS games. HOWEVER, they are certainly not an elite coaching gig.

His decision was influenced by the NCAA sanctions placed on Alabama, which included a two-year bowl ban, the loss of 21 scholarships over three years, and five years probation.
C'mon. Be practical.

I'm not confused - I just think you're wrong and trying to defend a black and white argument that doesn't work
There's no such thing as a job that every coach would not leave for another major program.
In today's college football LSU is probably a better job than Michigan to most coaches... it's prestigious, there are outstanding facilities, the recruiting in state is outstanding, and there is plenty of money for football.
But Les could easily end up going to Michigan even tho he'd have to rebuild and work harder to recruit - because he has an emotional attachment to the school

Ramble them off then. In 2011, what programs should not fear losing their coaches for another school?
Calhoun at UConn - Maybe, but when he leaves, so too does that program IMO.
I would say UConn is in a distant 3rd.

This is the inherent problem with an LSU message board. Michigan is a better long-term job than LSU, fact. LSU is a long ways away from having the NATIONAL prowess that Michigan has.
Can you imagine ESPN having such a field day if LSU had just fired its coach? Of course not. LSU is a great program and huge on a national level, but it is still not Michigan.

yet Pete left for the NFL because he obviously wanted to be there long-term.
You think probation had nothing to do with that decision?
