Wow! Just saw the story. Why ESPN singled out LSU is ridiculous...maybe because it sure looked like the Garret's have some money. This happens all the time - kids cut to make room for better players. That's life - people are fired to make room for more talented employees. This is a big business and this kid coouldn't make it as an LSU QB - plain and simple. Probably a good guy, good family but the reality is this - if you can't beat out J. Lee and J. Jefferson - you're not needed on the LSU roster, at a big time football program in the SEC. Sorry but that's how life is in the real world. ESPN needs to get over the fact that Miles made them look bad and stop the hate on LSU...just ridiculous.

Did not have the "want to's" there either. Expecting it to be handed to him. Maybe when he gets to Mississippi he will change.

If you get an academic scholarship and you underperform, doesn't that get taken away as well? If they want it to be a guaranteed 4-5 year scholarship then change the rules.

Is this a joke?

Anybody who watched an LSU game this year knows that if Chris Garrett could play he would have been starting.

Exactly. He was the third string QB on a team which had no QB.

This sort of thing happens everyday in the real world. What about the NFL? What about IBM? This was an agenda driven story. At the end of the day if you are good enough you are included. If not, move on.

I tend to agree that Miles counted on Zach Lee being in the fold at qb when this decision was made .

This is ridiculous. I have a hard time believing the fact that Miles fricked Garrett over. Garrett is just butt hurt.

I agree that scholarships have to be earned yearly, but in academics there are clear standards. You may need to maintain a 2.0 gpa for example to keep your scholarship from year to year. That's fair. It's clearly defined reasonable standard. Some scholarships may have higher gpa standars, but again it's a clear standard that you know going in you have to maintain. You take at least 12 credits and you're expected to get certain grades through assignments, papers, and exams.

Now in football scholarships what's the standard? What Les said is subjective and not clearly defined. Was Chris expected to be at least 3rd? If you so where is the policy clearly stated in writing before for all to see?

Did he have to take a certain number of snaps in practice? Did he have to take a certain number of snaps in games? Did he have to complete a certain number of passes in practice? If you say scholarships can be taken away based on performance let the kid know what the expectations are. It's no different than expecting a certain gpa, but you have to let the kid know what are his standadrs. What are your measurements for him getting renewed?

This.

I watched it. It was comedy that Garrett was one of the examples of oversigning casualties.

It was a lazy reporters piece.

Wasn't Ciron gone by the time all this went down?

I doubt he stays in close touch with CG, so how'd he know what exactly went down?

Here is my 2 cents.

It is not LSU or Miles's fault that Garrett couldn't handle the 'Freshman 50.'

that commitment (scholarship) is 1 year contract. at the end of that year, miles can let go of any kid he so pleases.

I would think there would be more interest in focusing on the Senior from Miami that started 17 games prior to losing his scholarship than a redshirt Soph that never played.

The story about Garrett not performing to expectations started in March, three months before his scholarship wasn't renewed.

Over-signing isn't a good practice, and it's not fair to the kids. But that story should have put more focus on the Miami situation and Houston Nutt's 37 recruit class than LSU's third string QB.

Ciron was a starter due to Les' loyalty, he should probably shut his mouth. Dude spent most of his senior season getting mauled by the likes of ULL defensive lineman. Partly due to injuries and partly because he was out of shape.
