wow, I don't care how you spin it, it doesn't put our university or coaching staff in a very good light,
that being said, it happens everywhere, we just the big middle finger on OTL

And we don't know what other issues might have been involved with the Miami kid. Not saying there were issues but there are always 2 sides to a story.

how do you know? like the garrett situation, maybe there is more to the situation then ESPN portrayed? its pretty dumb for us to bash ESPN for the handling of this piece on LSU, but then say they did a nice job covering the "da U" story. maybe wesley never showed up to practice? maybe he was on drugs? poor grades? we just dont know. well, i am sure someone does...but ESPN only gave us one side of the story.

Or maybe he was doing everything correct why go straight to he was in the wrong....?
I just feel for kids who are upper class-men when this happens.
When the school is not willing to comment it just makes them look bad not the kid.

yeah, thats the point we just dont know. personally, i have no sympathy for a kid who is just not trying, regardless if he is an upperclassmen or not.

There is no way for LSU to comment that would make the situation any better for them, even if they did nothing wrong. Chris Garrett can say whatever he wants without recourse because he knows that no one at LSU will go on record to refute him, and there is no reason to, there would be too much at risk for zero gain on LSU's part.

Yeah Chris, obviously if you were working hard and doing the right things you would have still gotten cut since LSU's QB situation is on such solid ground.
Eh, either way, Miles is in the business of winning football games and not making friends.

Now in football scholarships what's the standard? What Les said is subjective and not clearly defined. Was Chris expected to be at least 3rd? If you so where is the policy clearly stated in writing before for all to see?
I agree that comparing academic scholarships to athletic scholarships isn't an apples to apples comparison. However, I think staying in shape and having a good attitude could be minimum requirements. CG obviously had neither of these.

Purple color classes I thought Alabama was the worse with this?

I also like the clips of chris throwing in his big backyard trying to play the victim role. Nice.

I hope LSU saved some of the emails his daddy sent to coaches, that could paint a different picture.
Want to fill me in on this one?

What the hell should the school say? Nothing will make this "emotional" otl story seem less damaging.

And that's exactly why they report it the way they do. They know the school or coaches won't comment. And it does make them look bad. The general public views it as an admission by omission. How could Miles have commented on the story making himself look in the right, without totally bashing Garrett?
While I don't know the whole situation behind the Miami angle, it's just different for a guy who's been at a school 3 or 4 years vs. a guy who was there 1 or 2. A junior or senior is (at least in theory) academically invested at that university to the point where transferring is extremely detrimental.

I think the overall point of the piece was that the average SEC school is offering over 100 scholarships for 85 spots. That's not the way things should be done. 18 kids on average get fricked and are not warned about this policy upfront.
It's fricking SPORTS. Football at all levels have cuts. HS football has cuts.
These kids are on scholarship to play football, not to go along for the ride. If they lose their scholarship, they have the opportunity to earn it academically, or take out loans to finish. OR they can transfer. It's a competitive sport and schools aren't footing the bill for food, housing, and tuition/fees for nothing.

I have a few thoughts here.
First, LSU is hardly the worst school in the country when it comes to oversigning. That particular practice runs RAMPANT in the SEC. Singling out LSU is unfair.
Secondly, if Garrett were good enough to start at LSU, or be the #2 guy... they would NEVER have cut him at a thin position.
Thirdly, a coach has the right to cut an unproductive player, period. If he feels like he needs to use that scholarship elsewhere, then that is the choice of the head coach.
There is a reason why scholarships are renewed or not renewed every year.
Bottom line... you don't get cut if you make yourself UNCUTTABLE. That means busting arse, being a team leader and being indispensable as an asset to the team. Otherwise, you expose yourself to this sort of risk.
This is the SEC, not rec league ball. They don't have to keep you or play you. They owe you NOTHING. This is the highest level of college football. You want to play in the SEC, then GROW UP.

I think his stats at Northwestern State are all that are needed to show why he was removed from LSU's roster.

How would you respond to this scenario:
1.) At the end of the year/after spring ball, you express a desire to transfer because you feel that you are not getting the work/reps/opprtunity to earn playing time.
2.) During that meeting you are told by your position coach and the head coach that they do not want you to transfer, that they will make changes to ensure you get the reps/have an opportunity, and that they still expect you to be a player for them - so you stay.
3.) The following year nothing changes and your scholarship is pulled.

big time college football programs don't care about players,,,,,,and lsu is not the exception,,,,with the way les got rid of deangelo benton for rueban randle, chris garrett for the other lee that is playing baseball and elliott porter it makes me less critical of Cam and Cecil Newton,,,,,,,THE NCAA and college programs will use these players or your sons for their maximum gain. So if you can get paid and not be caught go ahead,,,its the american way.

If anyone believes that this only happens at LSU you r wrong. This happens every where, CG just wanted cry like a baby on national tv and I was at the spring game and he didn't look that good.

I guess the thing that jumps out at me is the intense "me" attitude expressed here, except in the area of personal responsibility. Reps are earned, not given. I don't see any statement of what he was expected to do and it's hard for me to believe he wouldn't have been given any. I also find it hard to believe that those expectations included being out of shape and gaining weight.
