i took the drivelady to Il Mulino when I was there this summer. service is excellent and nearly all of the servers were straight off the boat. really authentic and its located in the biggs mansion which was one of the houses that survived the chicago fire. the food was really good not great but it's classic italian. you're gonna pay top dollar but if you're treating yourself/woman for a one night thing in chiTOWN i'd definitely recommend it.
giordanos pizza was also sick nasty (aka the shite aka go eat there NOW)

Spiaggia (pricy) or Quartino (more reasonable).

Daves Italian Kitchen in Evanston. NOT fancy, casual, not "fine dining", but the place is pretty legendary in Chicago, esp on the North Side. About 30 minutes from the loop.

And try Cocco Pazo too. I'm hungover and not thinking properly...give me a few minutes to think of more. There are alot here and many very good

Cafe Spiaggia is a great bang for the buck place - truly an outstanding meal, and it's right on the Magnificent Mile.
I had gnocchi with wild boar (which ROCKED). Also had one of the best gelatos I've ever tasted (rice milk with cinnamon)...

Thanks everybody.... Looks like we'll pick Cafe Spiaggia or Quartino. Any other Chicago suggestions are welcome as well. Going the 28th through New Years. And yes, I'm aware of the season.
