As I was walking down Skip Bertman drive after the game, I turned around near the west side of the football practice facility to look at the campus for no particular reason. From that location, as you turn from counter-clockwise, you can see the either the lights or actual facilities of the softball field, the soccer complex, the baseball field, the football practice facilities, Tiger Stadium, the PMAC, and the track lights. It is an impressive panorama. LSU is one of the few places that I have ever been where all of the major sports have such first-class venues. It is also one of the few that I can remember having such an immense spread of athletic facilities. Obviously LSU has been blessed with the tremendous fan support coupled with the available real estate to the southwest of campus.

In my experiences, albeit mostly limited to the SEC, LSU has the perfect combination of tradition, grandeur, and modernization.

My question to those who have traveled more extensively than myself, specifically to other campuses, is whether LSU has the best all-around athletic facilities in the country?

Our T&F, Gymnastics, Tennis, and Swimming/Diving teams disagree with this assessment.

And the Basketball teams did up until about 8 months ago.

My father in law is in the Athletic Hall of Fame at Ohio State, so we go up there with some regularity -- I think their facilities are awesome on the whole. Not as "close" as LSU's. Also, Northern teams have a harder time with baseball than sun-belt team, but with this exception, tOSU is a great set of athletic facilities.

The University of Texas and Arkansas have very nice facilities across the board.

In time Oklahoma State will be the standard by which facilities are judged. T. Boone Pickens is pouring tens of millions into the program.
