All undefeated. That is the KEY to getting into the BCSNC game. That is why I feel we should never agree to play tough OOC teams (ie Oregon next year and WV). It is hard enough to stay unbeaten in the SEC. Anyone agree? If we had played ark st and west ky instead of UNC and WV and we were undefeated right now, where would we be ranked? 1 or 2, I'd bet.

but we lost to Auburn so we would be in the same spot? Now if we had lost to an OCC then I would agree with your post

In theory it might sound good. But more often than not, the national championship game includes a team with a loss. A strong schedule, including OOC, helps in the ratings (as with this year). Oh, and one more thing--our last regular season OOC loss was in 2002 (or, to put it in sharper focus, we have won TWO BCS national championships since the last time we lost an OOC game during the regular season).

I told my father following the 2003 BCS championship that the BCS would eventually blow up because everyone would figure it out and there would be a hand full of undefeated teams each season vying for the top 2 spots.

It seems teams have gotten smart to the BCS and are doing like you said. Do whatever is necessary to go undefeated and take your chances. Look at the Big 10's OOC opponents as a whole. It is a joke, yet they are not being penalized. Add a few non-AQ schools to the mix. The result is a top 10 full of teams that have played less than a quarter of their games against ranked opponents.

I would like to see the BCS continue to add a few wrinkles to help prevent the current trend. How about saying to even be ranked in the BCS standings, a team must have a strength of schedule ranked above 50 (or some number)? If you are in a tough conference then you can play some OOC cupcakes. However, if you are in a weak conference, you better load up on some OOC powers.

I get your point, but also remember Virginia Tech in 2007. It goes both ways.

I hate the pussy assed scheduling regimen.

As a fan, I much prefer us to play schools like NC and WVU instead of UAb, Citadel, or Miami of Ohio.

Besides, we didn't lose OOC. We lost to Auburn.

In a typical season, a one loss team can win the SECW. We even won one with three conference losses.

This isn't a typical year and its sad that our best season since 2003 is going to be wasted: ie we have little or no chance at the NCG. :(

Keep playing the tough OOC schedule. In a close race it gives us the edge IMO FWIW YMMV

What do you think got us in 2007? Was it:
(a) Being undefeated or
(b) Beating the ever living crap out of another National Title contender OOC?

I will give you two guesses

Probably the one game that put LSU over the top for the 2007 BCSCG was the OOC game against the ACC champs, V Tech.

So no, I don't think scheduling cupcakes is the way to get to the BCSCG.

Aside from that, my enjoyment of LSU football doesn't come from the possibility of getting into the BCSCG. My enjoyment of LSU football comes week by week, game by game. I don't start out the season wishing the season was already over and LSU was in the last game. I MUCH prefer watching the individual games, and to that end, I would rather see LSU play top ten teams every week. I can't stand watching cupckaes coming in to Tiger Stadium to get their asses handed to them.

I know a lot of people would rather watch LSU blow everybody out 56-0, but I find those games incredibly boring. I would much rather watch LSU win nailbiters every week.

It just makes watching football more fun for me.

your post makes no sense since we lost to an inconference foe. now, THEY are the ones that should be penalized more for playing a weak schedule. the only consolation is that THEY will never make the nc game if there is an undefeated team out there.

Oregons SOS is just atrocious, at this point it really doesnt make a whole lot of sense to schedule tough OOC games, as long as you are impressive.

Product of TCU and Boise IMO, CFB used to be argued objectively and somewhat like March Madness selections.

Now its heavily weighted towards blowing teams out.
shite schedule, no problem, just beat everyone by 30-40 and youre golden.

its dumb

We should never back away from facing a tuff OOC schedule.

We are LSU...bring it on!

There is no shame in losing, but there is shame in not even trying cause we might fail. imo
