And these weren't built to check the Mississippi, why in the he'll would you build two side by side for that? Mounds are where a tribal leader was buried. Lsu's are unique bc there are two.

....yeeaaaahhhh... i'm going to need to see some documentation other than a message board for that.

Or you could go here... LINK and find out...

quote:

"Why they were built remains a mystery, but most archaeologists agree that they were not burial places or temples, believing instead they were likely identity symbols used for religious or ceremonial purposes. Several soil samples have been taken from the mounds, and recently, charred pieces of earth were discovered within them, leading some to theorize the builders used it as a barbecue pit (this is the South, you know) or possibly for crematory purposes. Whether it contains any other artifacts remains unknown."

So basically, the people saying that they're burial grounds, there are artifacts underneath them, etc... its just fun rumors people like to perpetuate to the point where a lot of people believe them as fact. Much like the "soil is eroding from inside" statement that I refuse to believe until I see a report.

yes, after 60 years of kids playing on them, I guess its suddenly bad for the mounds to be trampled on.

compare the rate of wear over the last 6,000 years or whatever, vs. the rate of wear the last 60, idiot.

please show me any kinds of back up for this. the checking of the mississippi story is what's been given as fact at LSU for quite a while now

This is the cool part. This is where you really see the evidence that there are some severly retarded people going to lsu games. The fact that they're 6000 years old and in need of preservation for all of mankind is irrelevant because they were only used to check the level of the Mississippi. I mean, the Vietnam memorial is only a list of names, why shouldnt I be allowed to go take a shite on it?

They just conducted a deep soil sample for first time. Results are mounds are decompacting on the inside, you won't see the objective harm on the outside till it is too late...

So explain to us how a deep soil sample is taken.

Explain to us how it determined all ill effects are caused by kids on slides.

Link to proof?? Any remote amount of proof and non theory is also ok.

Ironically
The same people fighting for the survival of dirt are likely the same people that would love to take a shite on the Vietnam memorial. Many of them certainly treated the soldiers that way.

I bet they were used for the same reason we have our mounds, to bury left over carcuses so they don't smell,........ and styrophoam cups, and batteries

Did anyone see the indian mounds last week? I did. Did you see the circular ruts carved into them? It's from the lawnmowers. I'm pretty sure that the lawnmowers and driving stakes into them for fences does more damage than a kid sliding on a piece of cardboard.

Could be wrong. Could very well be wrong. But i don't think they're any smaller than when I was a kid, and if they're 6000 years old, and kids have been sliding down them since probably before my parents were kids - I'd like to think that they'll still be standing when my grandkids grandkids are wanting to slide down them.

Look, I understand no parking on the oaks, I understand no pissing on buildings, etc. I just feel this is a little ridiculous. I think its more for the people leading this charge to feel good about themselves. Its like they felt worthless unless they could do something "big" to "help" LSU. So they go to LSU with this idea, and LSU is too PC to tell them no.

So a gameday tradition - for kids, that's a childhood memory for so many LSU fans, is going to be taken away b/c basically, a small group of people "THINK" its ever so slightly damaging 2 old hills that no one is really sure why they're there.

So who does more harm?

A 30 pound kid on a slide OR

OR

A heavy hydraulic post shoved into the dirt to take a sample?

30 pound kids..... OR 1000 pounds of equipment by do-gooder scientist?

You decide

I showed you an article that disproves your claim. You have yet to show me anything that says that they are burial grounds for tribal leaders.

Apparently the only argument for saving the mounds is to act like a retard and to believe that a 30 pound kid causes more dammage than a 1000 pound lawnmower or a hydrolic post gived into the mound to take a soil sample.

Anyone that believes otherwise is actually the ignorant redneck to these people.
