I agree. Lee's passes are in much better location for the receiver.

Not sure... I don't think Lee will be starting unless we lose some games, and I hope that doesn't happen. Realistically we will lose a couple, though... after that it's probable Lee will start if Jefferson isn't getting it done.

On the basis of this video only, I would have to agree.

JL is Drew Brees in practice.....practice.

Don't be surprised if you are correct.

I dont know if I'd be surprised

JL has always had better ball throwing ability than JJ. Sometimes I feel like JL should start or will start over JJ and other times I think well the OL play was bad last year and JJ was playing ultraconservative due to being instructed to.
Then I remember how crappy JL played last year. Then I think about how JJ sucked in the spring game and how I have heard that he isn't stepping up into a leadership role second hand from players.
We will see soon enough if either of these guys have what it takes this year. We already know they didn't have what it takes last year.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that JJ will finally step up his game then I hope the same for JL then back to JJ. Hopefully one will step up before damage is done.

Again, I think I made a comment about this on another thread but I will add here that JJ has been off on his long ball throughout the off-season while JL has been hitting the WRs on stride.
Having said that JL is still JL and on vidoes of him on short, intermediate routes when one of the coaches gets into his passing lane his passes seem wildly inaccurate.
JJ is still JJ and JL is still JL. My $0.02.

Quarterbacks
Worked on screen passes and wheel routes with the receivers and running backs. Jefferson and Zach Lee looked the most comfortable here as they both showed quick releases and had perfect accuracy, you can even argue that Lee's passes were coming in quicker. Jarrett Lee really struggled here as he still seems to float his short passes. Like Derek said, Paul Mainieri was in attendance keeping a close eye on Zach Lee.

Quarterbacks
The first thing the quarterbacks did this afternoon was throwing slant routes to the receivers. Jordan Jefferson not only excelled in this drill hitting all of his targets in stride and with good speed on the throws, but he also showed glimpses of becoming that leader that every one wants to see this season. The junior starting signal caller was very vocal, saying things like "get there!" or "good job!" to his receivers after they made a play.
On offense, the wide receivers and quarterbacks worked on both their short and deep routes. Jordan Jefferson was hitting his receivers in stride more consistently this morning than when the group worked on deep balls earlier in the week. When talking leadership, both Jefferson and Jarrett Lee were getting after their receivers with instructions. There were a couple of times where I saw Lee tell the young guys to “get your head turned around on that route,” or something to that effect. I can’t remember Lee being this active and vocal last fall.
Quarterbacks
Jordan Jefferson continued his string of very sharp performances. He was throwing deep balls on a dime today. And as I was talking about with Matt Moscona while watching it, he is putting enough air under his balls to allow his receivers to run under them. This is the best he has ever looked.
For the second period of the media availability portion of practce, the five quarterbacks worked on play action roll out drills where they would hit a receiver 10 yards down field off the run. In my humble opinion, I think this was the best collected performance that they have shown as everyone from Jordan Jefferson to T.C. McCartney seemed to have good accuracy and zip on the ball despite throwing off their back foot.
Jefferson continued to excel with his deep balls 25 yards down the sidelines. He seemed to hit everyone of his receivers in stride. Zach Lee on the other hand, had problems finding the release point in this drill as he frequently over shot his receivers.
Sounds like JJ is doing prety well according to this guy who gets to actually watch part of practice?

better video:

But I can see why, with the studs we have at the QB position, the coaches wouldn't want to use someone with decent passing ability and better-than-Pat White running ability.

um...that doesn't look like the "spread" offense.
that looks like an offense that needs a great offensive line to protect a pocket passer.
we don't have the offensive line to attempt those throws.

want to go ahead and say i may be in the minority but im tired of overanalyzing everything both QBs do. I have full confidence in each QB whoever is in the game. Lee has always looked good talent wise he just couldnt read defenses but i think he has improved. I also believe that Jefferson will improve from last year and take more chances. In the end i think we'll be fine with either guy because both have talent and they have got a handle on the mental aspect now.

I'm not trying to stir anything here, and I definitely think both quarterbacks will be just fine this season. We do not need a Texas Tech offense, but I'm pretty confident we will better than 112 last year.
However, why does the coach put his hands in the air on Jefferson's throws and not Lee's throws. Just a slight difference I saw between the two.
That still doesn't excuse some of the throws JJ made though.

Jefferson isn't showing good accuracy in this video
JL will start by 2nd half

1) All QB's are doing a good job getting the ball out of their hands. . .in practice.
2) Only 3 passes hit the WR in stride. . .and 2 were from Zach Lee (one from JL on the short posts). WR's had to adjust their routes for all passes on the deep routes, except for 2 thrown by Zach. . .in practice.
3) Accuracy and timing can be worked on, I wouldn't be too concerned. Pocket presence and internal clock are the more important factors to look at, and all of them seemed to be doing well there.
4) We need to know one of 2 things from either QB to have a special season:
4A) JL: Can he overcome the Howard/Richey mental block that keeps him from performing? If he can, he is a horse we can ride all the way.
4B) JJ: If this kid develops a modicum of pocket presence and internal timing, he could end up an an All-SEC team. Kid has scary tools, he has just been poorly coached.
Both QB's have question marks. I tend to side with Jefferson in the QB argument because his mistakes are the easiest to correct. Will they be corrected? I don't have much faith in our coaching staff to do so, but I hope they have.
JL could be a special QB, but mental deficiencies are unpredictable, and unfortunately usually permanent.
I hope one overcomes. . .because if it happens, and the OL plays worth a damn. . .we could play for it all.
Keep in mind that despite how badly you think last season went, we were a bad INT review, and a poorly managed minute and a half from winning the west.

Leadership is what we need. His accuracy is good enough.

The only thing I would base off of this video, is that those who are basing things off this video are fricking off base.
frick.
It's like a :30 clip, you dolts!
