There really hasn't been that much good news really. He throws a decent ball and we know that much from the spring.. but being a QB is so much more than that. He did look really good for a freshman in his first spring game.

someone reported a couple of weeks ago that Miles was asked about Garrett at a Tiger Tour stop and said something like "we told him we needed him to step up and compete and he said he didn't feel like he was ready yet"...which is probably why he only got about 3 snaps in the Spring Game.

Yes, but it's also a process. Looking good as a Freshman is a start. It just seems odd that all of a sudden he doesn't cut it anymore.

The loss of Garrett is not in and of itself a big deal.
I can believe everything supatigah says went down just as he says it did.
But, you would have to have blinders on not to see that this staff has whiffed on anything and everything QB related. It certainly would be nice not to waste time teaching a system to personnel not suited to carry it out.
What system is that we run again?
On second thought, the new staff may appreciate working with a blank slate.

agree...whether Garrett would have ever contributed is kind of beside the point. August 17th has suddenly become a pretty big day.

Is that when we know for sure about Lee?

I think so...I've seen both the 15th and 16th referenced as the signing deadline

If you look at all 5 scholarship QB's signed by Miles, it really is a bloody mess.
Perrilloux was doomed from the get go, Hatch wouldn't have sniffed the field outside the Ivy League, I have on good authority that Jefferson was never considered by one of our other state schools, and Lee is what he is.
Miles could probably survive like Mack if Ole Miss last year hadn't cost him an arm and a leg. You just don't walk away from something like that. Sure, you might win the Special Olympics or something, but not the SEC West.
Crowton does not attract the type of talent at the QB position necessary to win championships.
It sure is a blessing that our baseball tradition may give us a shot at ZLee.

to be fair..Hatch was a walk-on originally.
I think JJ and JLee could have been developed much better, and certainly would have benefited from being behind RP for a few years. Who knows for sure...but Crowton is ultimately the problem, he should have been moved out after last season.

He would have been, but the decision was made to let him sleep in the bed he made.
No sense throwing good money after bad.

Garrett wasn't understanding the offense
That's impossible.
He's got motor!
And heart!

It may be 15th or 16th but it also coincides with Lee attending his 1st day of classes I believe......If Lee registers full time and goes to class he can't sign right?

Totally agree, and this is what the people who think light of CG leaving miss. Namely that we are suddenly paper thin at the most critical position on the field.

Chris Garrett quit and didn't want to compete. We don't need that here at LSU.

c'mon man, everytime someone leaves it's that shite, the kid saw that with Jefferson/Lee firmly entrenched in front of him he wasn't going to be playin as soon as he would have liked, and so he took it for what it is.
go get a chance elsewhere.

I disagree with this. I don't see this QB deal as anything related to a competition. Jefferson is the starter the next 2 years barring injury. JLee is backing up. I personally feel classification should mean nothing. Players compete and the better player plays. For example Lyle Hitt would and Tbob would have been on the bench for me. Hurst and Lonergan would have played because they were better. You don't know what was said but my feeling was Garrett and anybody else are not gonna be allowed to compete with Jefferson during the season.

Really? Garrett told Les he wasn't ready to play? I find this hard to believe. What kid tells a coach, I am not ready?
Something is wrong here...the reporting, Les, something.
LSU needs QB's. If Jefferson gets hurt, all they have is, well, the INT guy. After that, its freshman and cheerleaders.

Not sure I buy this...when it came out it seemed to only come from the Miles-haters

just relaying what was posted on here...I'm sure some of it got lost in the translation. However, it's possible Garrett didn't want to be the next player in line to be thrown to the wolves in Crowton's scheme. JJ and Lee have both ended their seasons as starters with their brains turned to mush.
In reality though, you'd really like a QB to not have to be the man until their third year in the program.

How many remember when Fisher was the problem?
Now his quarterback, Christian Ponder, is getting some mention as a Heisman candidate.
