Geaux east of RR to Taylor Texas and eat at Louie Meullers BBQ. aBOUT 25 MIN. and worth the trip. Also in Austin The Magnolia Cafe on Congress closer to 290 is a good choice.

Salt Lick in Round Rock at 3350 E. Palm Valley Blvd next to the baseball stadium. Great BBQ.......

Depends how much time you have... can you drive and spend a couple hours out, or is it a busy trip?
And yes, get some Round Rock donuts.
I don't consider Salt Lick that good, but you can try it...it is their other location, not the original. Louie Muellers is pretty good, but if you can somehow make a trip to Lockhart or Luling that would beat it.
Johnny T's bbq is pretty good too.
I would not suggest this.
Try this: LINK
If you want what I call "AusTex-Mex" go to Chuy's. This is more of an eclectic Tex Mex place.
In general, be warned: Austin/Round Rock does not have GREAT food. It's a town filled of yuppies/hipsters/hippies/and liberals who fool themselves into thinking they know what good food is. Of course there are exceptions, but for the most part it's just decent food.

Jackalope is correct about the "not great food" around these parts, so don't get your hopes up.
Staying primarily in RR.... There is a Chuy's on I-35 in Round Rock. You might try Mighty Fine (hamburgers) also on I-35 in Round Rock. Louie M's is definitely fantastic BBQ (go there late afternoon and then head out to the Coupland Dancehall for some country boogie) and the Beirgarten in Wahlberg is a good time -- not the best German food, but one of the few places around here that is primarily German (beer, brats and an oompah band).
