quote:I don't mean this in a condescending way, but you need to go to more Italian restaurants. I like Gene Todaro, he's a nice guy, but this isn't a great Italian restaurant by any stretch of the imagination. It's a cool concept, what with the retail wine store in the restaurant, but the food is average at best. If you want a solid generic red sauce veal parm, it's fine, but it's no better than Carrabas. If you want something authentic, made with high quality ingredients, you won't find it here. He uses shredded parmesean from a bag on salads and other dishes. That to me is unforgivable. This is at least the third iteration of Marcellos in Lafayette. The second version served me the worst meal I have ever had in a restaurant, and that was twenty years ago, when my frame of reference was much narrower. My beef with the place is that they have the time and the resources to source better ingredients and serve better food, but they don't. Gene is in that place every night, so I don't know what the issue is. But they don't serve food that is any better than a chain like Carrabas.
Ohh, and for whoever was talking about there being no decent italian places in Lafayette, go to Marcello's that place is phenomenal. May be the best italian restaurant I have ever been to.

Anyone try this place?

Your explanation was perfect. Cool, you need to head to NO and try Domenica and A Mano. By far the two best Italian places in LA. For real Italian, not bastardized versions.

Thanks, might hit them up for lunch today.
