israel vazquez vs rafael marquez IV = EPIC boxing fight tonight

Card starting at 8pm on Showtime.
3 previous fights between the two fighters. Two fights were fight of year, the other was a candidate for FOTY. Only one went the distance. Yahoo recently had an article stating that the first three fights were one of the top five trilogies in the last 50 years of boxing.
With age catching up to both fighters and with the previous wars, I dont see this one being as brutal as the others. But I still expect a war. I wouldnt be surprised if one, possibly both, retire after this fight (who knows? if the series ties up at 2-2, I wouldnt put it past them to fight a 5th fight).
Any combat sport fans (boxing or MMA) that are nerds like me and staying home on a Sat night, I highly recommend tuning in.

you say these guys are little older now. how old are they?

I thought they both looked a bit sketchy in their tune up fights but they'd been off for a while. Actually if they're both a bit past it then it will probably be another war, it will just equal out.
Vazquez is 32 and Marquez is 35 but its an old 32 and 35 in boxing terms, a guy like Hopkins is 45 or 46 but he's taken far less punches over his career and been in far less grueling fights.
The first three fights were truly great.

Probably early 30s. But both have been professionals since their late teens and with a bunch of ring wars, they probably have slowed down a little more than what their age would suggest (But thats just my opinion. No facts to back that up).
Both have been on top of their division for a long time though. Because its at a lighter weight and both are foreign born, they dont get much media here in the U.S.
Edit:
Beat me to it

Oh and the undercard fight has two pretty good young fighters.

Its been a great fight too. They are getting tired now, but first 4 rounds were nothing but action.

This is a quality fight, especially for the undercard. Too bad these Vazquez-Marquez cards have never been promoted enough.

I have been waiting for this all month. It will be a great fight no doubt. Who you got winning ttown ?

Is Marquez really willing to fight a 5th time no matter what?

That first fight was fantastic! End ended in a draw, so let them do it again!!
Honestly, I really dont know who to pick in the main event. Flip a coin. Vasquez has won two, including the last one by spilt decision. But if you remember, he was losing going into the last round, knocked Marquez down giving him a 2-point round, and because of that won a split decision by one point. Craziness!
If I had to pick, Id say Marquez. But really, I have no idea.
It one of those fights that I really dont care who wins, I will just sit back, watch, and enjoy.

I'm pulling for Marquez but will not be upset if vasquez wins again. About to start. Hope it's good

I really don't know who to pick. I don't really know if these guys are the same fighters. Guess I'll pick Rafael. I thought Vazquez looked the worse of the two in their tuneup fights.

I saw Marquez is favored, and Vazquez has a mouse already there will be blood early I have a feeling.
Posted on 5/22/10 at 9:25 pm to WHATDOINO
i don't care who wins, but if this fight is even half as good as any of their other fights, we're in for a treat.
I think it'll go to decision with Vazquez sqeaking out another victory.

yeah Vazquez had to have surgery I think around his cheekbone, below his eye, he's got issues with scar tissue and all of that. I'm not sure what will happen but I'm pretty sure he'll get cut at some point.
Posted on 5/22/10 at 9:37 pm to Crede15
Vazquez is a warrior. He will have to have a miracle not to get this stopped after being opened so early. Marquez looks sharp but he will slow down I think.
Posted on 5/22/10 at 9:37 pm to Crede15
damn! that's a bad cut
its huge, and its right over his eye.
i'm changing my vote.
i think Marquez wins by TKO (cuts)

WOW
Didnt think it would end that early. Great fight by Marquez, Vazquez never should have been in ring though. He is a warrior by taking the fight without bitching.
Marquez didnt have his trainer and Vazquez needs new advisors. I wouldnt let him get in ring with that eye.
