hmm I don't know how I feel about this because I think he's best out of the pen but we have to find better starting pitching.

Why not? Just hold em to 15 and we've got a chance.

I am a little surprised that they have soured on Matulis that much.

He was the best we had for a good stretch earlier, but has been a little inconsistant lately. Bert,Rittner,Alsup, Lasuzzo, and Cotton have been the better guys lately IMO. I'm OK with Rittner starting, just hope he can mentally handle the situation. Much rather him come in later, but if this is what the team needs.... .

Considering someone has to start, why not Rittiner? The best we can hope for is to pitch by committee until 1 or 2 individuals step forward.

Don't know how safe that makes me feel but then again, AR used to make me feel quite condident anytime he went out there. No doubt about it, this is all interview work for the pitching staff, perform-you get the job. Don't, well..next applicant please step forward. Hopefully Rittiner comes in "ON", keeps this supposidly weak Vandy offense down, & our offense gets enough runs to keep him comfortable out there until someone can come in late & close this thing down. I mean, does anyone feel comfortable with ANYONE starting?

I've always felt confident with Ross starting. As bad as things have been, I find his starts have been consistent. I could be wrong, but I don't think he's been shelled in the first 3-4 innings.

well depending on your definition of shelled you just have to go back a few days. he gave up 3 runs in the 3rd? i think. other than his forget his arm in the dugout inning a game hes usually solid for about 4 or 5 good innings plus his godawful one, but honestly that doesnt seem to bad right about now.

lets see what rittner has got. if he can go 4 or 5 giving up <5 then we can probably string a line between mormann and cotton to get us to the 8th or 9th and let matty try again

I would think Ott is available for a short outing and I doubt Bert is.

I would think Ott would, esp to close, possible 8th if needed.

It'd be nice not to need either one of them tonight and have them both available tomorrow if needed. Hopefully that's not just wishful thinking.
