I think the baseball represented something from The Field of Dreams and once they cross a line it cannot be reversed. So now that they're on the island, they had to come back, they can't be what they were before.
KIDDING.
KIDDING.

Re-watched it yesterday and totally didn't even think anything of the baseball the first time around.
Just out of curiosity, when Richard visits Locke as a kid, a baseball isn't one of the items he puts on the table, is it?
Compass, knife, comic book ?????????????

I really don't know where people are getting this from. If anything, Hurley is being set up as being the next Jacob. And the MIB has his own agenda and I don't think anything needs to replace him really, since if he gets off the Island, something tells me horrible things will happen. Its just Jacob vs MIB. There are no replacements (Hurley I think is just a replacement for Ben and Locke's position as leader of the Others).
And your Kate theory....
And OMLanddouche rears his douchey head again. Almost none of the theories in here will turn out to be true in the end, but this should be a place where people feel free to posit them without fear of the eventual scorn of some know-it-all f@ggoty Ole Miss prick pissing on 'em.

First of all, frick off. Secondly, I don't see how anyone can come to that conclusion (Sawyer is the next MIB and Jack is the next Jacob). No evidence supports this. There is no evidence contrary either, so it isn't a horrible theory, but its just pulling stuff straight out of your arse.
Yeah this should be a free place to theorize, but you shouldn't expect every person to say "yeah that theory is a great idea". Some of the theories posted on here are stupid, and I've had my fair share in stupid theorizing. Lost is meant to be debated.

I think the Jack=Jacob and Sawyer=MIB and Kate=Richard idea is a cool premise and if you are following the theory that this is just a game they are playing with humanity it stands a chance but in reality it is just wishful thinking.

the only part of that which makes sense is the kate=richard idea.
eloise hawking makes Jack put on Christians shoes on Locke because Locke is going to be a substitute for Christian. It makes more sense that Kate was a substitute for Richard.
What I mean is, I think eventually we'll see that every time that a group of people were "brought" to the island, you'll have a cast:
1. Someone dead (Christian, Locke)
2. Someone in handcuffs (Richard, Kate)
etc...

This idea comes from Episode "316"
The idea would be something like:
Man of Faith Guards the Temple: Doogan, Locke
Man of Science and Action Guards the Camp: Ben, Jack
Camp leader helper: Tom, Sayid
Temple leader helper: Dude from Hardball, Sawyer
Man in Chains is the advisor: Richard, Kate
Wandering Hurting Soul: Russo, Claire
Etc.
Lost child in the possession of another: Alex, Aaron
It's definitely a stretch but it makes sense somewhat

Theory 1 of the day:
The cabin that Hurley saw "The Beginning of the End" was the cabin being transported through time after the island moved. That was why it disappeared.
This is important and ties everything together. The MIB tells Locke to move the island knowing the cabin with the ash will move. The island is moved and people start bouncing around through time. The Cabin also bounces around and ultimately appears in front of Hurley who trips and moves the ash. The MIB escapes.

Theory 2:
The reality were are seeing in 2007 with the Losties we know is REALLY the alternate reality.
The reality in 2004 is the normal reality in the same line as the reality from 1977 after the bomb.
Reasoning: When the second flight (316) experiences a flash, Jack and company stay in the normal reality and get sent back to 1977. The remaining members are sent to an alternate reality in 2007 while they assume they are in a normal reality. This would explain some of the subtle differences in the island that were never explained in the 2007 version of the island in season 5.
Now when the bomb goes off in the normal reality in 1977, the real copies of everyone are sent to the normal 2004 with their memories altered. This is how we know the bomb "worked". This would also explain why the island was underwater in 2004. Also recall we did not know the final location of the island after the final season 5 flash. So it could have went back to its original location.
The Losties we know are copied and sent to the alternate reality with the memories unaltered.
It's pretty much the same as we all expect except for the twist that "alternate" reality is really switched.

I now understand why people argue with you so much. You are horrible at explaining what you are thinking. Care to try again, in English?

There are two "timelines" going on now.
1. 2007 - Current reality on the island with the Losties fully aware of the island and each other.
2. 2004 - Losties landing in LAX not aware of the island or each other.
Almost everyone is saying that "2" is the alternate reality created after the bomb. I was saying that "1" is the real alternate reality created after the flash on flight 316 during season 5. On that flight, Sun, Ben, and company are sent to a parallel alternate reality in 2007. On the 316, the flash sends Jack and company to the same reality they were originally in, but in the year 1977.
Now after the bomb, Jack and company are sent to the alternate reality in 2007 while we see that everything else truly resets in the original reality (1) in 2004.
Therefore, "It worked"

First off I think that everyone here thinks that the alternate reality is them landing in LAX so that's nothing new.
Otherwise you don't have much to support that and not to be mean, I just don't like that as an "ending".

not I
I think the landing @ LAX is the ending of the series

Personally I think it is the same timeline as the other one sort of. As in the Losties on the island will do something to "reset" the entire situation, merging the two realities into one.

much better explanation. though, i completely disagree.

I was not saying I believed it. I was merely stating it as a possibility due to the fact that it seems less obvious.
