Dandy Don said it was a major blow. I disagree. CJ missed a lot of tackles and coverages. He wasn't a natural safety so that could be the reason but he didn't fulfill expectations like we hoped. A good player but not a game changer like he could have been.

it's worse for him than it is for us, IF (and this is a big if, right now) Loston is as good as advertised... if not, then yes, the Dandy one is correct... again

I believe it is a bad move for his career, and he will be missed but, I think we can aree that he is yet another super-talented kid that didnt develop under this regime (sp?).

I cant blame Chad. I mean he can see it more clear than any of us, he's there living the out of control down fall of the LSU football program under Les Miles. When you have the talent this guy does you should go ahead and go for the money instead of returning for a senior season with a program that will go 8-4 if not 7-5, its not like he will be playing for a NC.

Are you kidding me? He changed the outcome of at least 2 games. Did u see the Miss State game? He isn't a major blow only b/c we have the #1 safety coming out of high school a year ago.

Jones was one of the top talents on the field every game and played better than every other LSU defensive player except 2.

I agree with wooden nickel, Chad Jones obviously was a valuable player/athlete but it seemed like he relied mostly on speed and athleticism and never really had or developed football insticts or a feel for the position. With Loston coming in, I don't think it will be too damaging to our defense.

Or was never coached up properly
He made ridiculous plays solely on his athleticism and football insticts

Not from the safety position, maybe as a punt returner, which athletes can do.

really?
sack & fumble to seal the W vs Bama
leaping pass deflection vs MSU to save Miles' arse
(just off the top of my head)

BTW-he wasn't a very good punt returner (adequate but not very good)

So he made 2 good plays that you can remember, lets see how many Loston makes over the course of his career so that we may compare.

Try to stay on topic.
My point was not that Jones is a great player. I agree that he was underdeveloped &, hence, underperformed some. But to deny his talent & athleticism is just dumb. I'd have loved to see what he could have done with Saban's defensive back coaching.
Those 2 examples are just that, examples of great football instinct plays & athleticism as a safety.

Loston may be great. But to say you know this before he even plays a down is dumb. People were clamoring the same things about Jones.

I don't recall denying his athleticism, check my first post, I advised he in fact relied on these 2 qualities. Also, didn't guarantee anything on Loston, just asked you to wait and see how he performs over the course of his career.

Everything you'd said is erroneous. He's a good safety. Most of what you stated are rant myths.

He was arguably the best player on defense.

Possible preseason 1st team all american for next year. Yep, we did not need him, we can just rely on a redshirt freshman to step in and not miss a beat.

Yeah, the "pre-season" awards are pretty meaningful, you're right, good basis for argument. And the fact that you put possible just seals it, great post.

So you willing to bet that Loston will be better than Jones next year? Did not think so. Who do think will be the best player on defense next year if CJ was returning?
