Right. Against the better teams, the passing offense was MIA. It wasnt a bad offense, but how many of you here felt confident against OK when our offense had the ball? LSU was just clinging to its lead and relying on defense.

Granted, Mauck had the best O-Line in the history of LSU football - better than the '87 line. Still, 28 TD's is nothing to scoff at.

Georgia was the 2nd best team we faced. Auburn was the 4th. Yes, I agree with you on the OU game...Mauck struggled and shouldn't have thrown the INT late in thegame and we win 28-7. I also will discredit me a bit that we did have 4 defensive TD's that I can count that season:

T Daniels INT vs. State
Ledoux's fumble return vs. SC
Turner's INT vs. UGA
Spears's INT vs. OU

Still, those quick 21 we put up on Auburn was amazing.

I just don't get the obsession with Jefferson. Mcelroy may not be that good, but Saban has built a team around him. Whose fault is it that Jefferson does not have team around him that can beat Bama, Fla, or Ole Miss? It is obviously not Jordan's fault for the most part.

Maybe, but all I'm saying is Flynn and JR were better, and that many QBs wouldve won a title that year considering the OL and the defense. Mauck was good, but not special. Definitely a notch below JR, Flynn, and IMO Rohan. I like Rohan.

Ro was a better competitor than all of them. My favorite LSU QB of all time.

People can't stand to give Mauck credit! It takes a great QB to run a great team!Mauck also new when to run with the ball etc...! Flynn very similar! Mauck was a Better QB then JR!PERIOD. We most likely would have another NC if he'd stayed another year!

I did. I knew Justin Vincent would run in down their throats. Didn't he have something like 200 yards that game?

Nah...we wouldve either ended up like AU or have gotten beaten by USC.

both could manage a game...imo thats what is the most important stat

So the fact that Mauck had 14 INTs, Flynn had 11 INTs, and JR had 8 INTs leads you to believe that JR was the worst game manager of the three? Or was it the fact that Mauck and Flynn had a lower completion percentage?

28 TDs 8 INTs
28 TDs 14 INTs
21 TDs 11 INTs

Clearly, QB #1 managed the game the poorest of the three.

8 INTs, Highest completion %
11 INTs, Lowest completion %
14 INTs, Middle completion %

Clearly, QB #1 has the lowest IQ on the football field. Or where you referring to history, math, and science scores, which have nothing to do with football?

No argumen for Jefferson here until he can learn to move up in the pocket when pressure comes from the back side. Youth and coaching are the issues. He will be solid as he grows up.

Mauck was a more mature qb than JR and maturity has a lot to do with success at that position. Davey had the maturity finally in his last season. JR never had exceptional maturity, but he was by FAAAR the more talented of the two.

Mauck never won a game by himself - didn't really have to. He threw a GW TD vs. UGA, but Corey Webster was the hero of that game as I had qualms about us stopping them that last drive. Still, managing wise, Mauck was an A minus. He had a few bad picks - Ole Miss and end of OU. He had the attention of his team, though, and was 18-2, I believe, as the starting qb at LSU - losing only his first start and to Florida.
