I was watching last year's LSU vs Auburn game, and LSU went 89 yards in 1:26 at the end of the 3rd quarter to take the lead, 17-14. It all started with an interception by Chris Hawkins on an Auburn 4th and 1. LSU gets the ball at the 11 yard line, and goes on an incredible drive:
Charles Scott up the middle for 11 yards.
Lee to Lafell for 33 yards.
Lee to Lafell for 24 yards.
K. Williams halfback pass to Byrd for a 21 yard TD.

Here's what distinguished this drive from the rest:
- Every play went for more than 10 yards.
- There were no incompletions.
- There was a trick play that was executed flawlessly.
- Every pass was right on target.
- This drive was the turning point in the game, and gave LSU the lead.

Not sure this game was important enough for this characterization, but it might be the best series of plays I've ever seen in an LSU game as far as pure execution and success are concerned. Just goes to show you what this team can do if they execute. Can anyone think of a better drive?

Final drive of LSU vs. UF in '07 trumps that for sure, but a good 2nd place

Uh, what about the drive where Hester converted a bazillion fourth downs?

vs. Florida '07.

Maybe better "in history". But in recent history that's arguably the best.

I agree about the Hester drive, but, if you read my post, I'm specifically talking about pure execution and success in a drive. The Auburn drive had no incompletions, and no plays under 10 yards. The Florida game was more important, and the drives were amazing, but the execution in the Auburn drive was flawless.

+1

Against the best scoring defense in SEC play ... for at least the last 40 years or so. Auburn only gave up 6.1 ppg in conference games that year.

I would argue that UF '07 was the more epic, and the better, game, but that the last drive against Auburn in '88 (in what was otherwise a pretty frustrating and boring game) edges it out.

'88 Auburn good, but beating UF was the best drive of the national title season.

A drive that takes the final 9:00 off the clock, with clutch play after clutch play after clutch play, and ends in the winning score in the biggest game of a championship year... and you don't consider that the most pure execution and success?

Geez...

Biggest untalked about point of that drive is that if gave UF no time left to do anything... something like 25 seconds is all that remained. That was as big as the score.

If you are talking flawless, I agree with the Auburn drive. Absolutely flawless drive.

As for epicness, UF 07.

Didn't say I didn't think that drive was a huge success, but every play in that drive wasn't hugely successful. There were several plays in that drive that did not go so well. My point was that every play in the Auburn drive was successful and perfectly executed. You should probably read my post. It will help you get my point.

I think thd 2003 team had back-to-back 90+ yard and 20+ play drives in a 33-7 romp at No. 24 USC and Lou Holtz.

Doc - great find, except that it cuts off *just* before the winning catch. Kind of like a 10 giving wonderful head and suddenly deciding to take a phone call.

Gotcha!

Obviously, it's not hard to find Part 2 on the side menu, but there's also the shorter version of Hawthorne's call of the single play: LINK.

I vote for this as the final answer.
