Honestly it's pretty pathetic if he's willing to sign for 500,000-700,000 coming out of highschool.

1.Drafted by the Phillies who are one of the richest franchises and could bargain for more than that easily.
2.He can play 3 years and become a instant top 5 round pick.
3.He has one of the best arm's in his class and if he can elevate his fastball 3-4 mph he would be a top 25 pick in 2012.

I don't know why coaches continue falling into this trap. OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS TO GUYS WHO WILL COME TO LSU and not guys drafted in the first 8 rounds that they pretty much know will sign pro contracts.

There's no guarantee for this. It's also possible that you go to college and your draft stock goes down.

What if he gets injured? There is no guarantee he adds 3-4 mph to his fb, maybe he finds Reggie's and freshman girls and adds 25 pounds instead. Maybe he just strait up wants to be a pro baseball player and LSU was just a good option to advance that in case he din't get drafted/offered enough money.

It sucks that he won't be pitching for the Tigers for three years... I agree with that, but not every elite athlete we sign in baseball or basketball has a dream of being part of the Tigers Hall of Fame. Either way, the baseball team will be alright.
