My friend thinks the SEC and pac 10 are the two best conferences in college football over the past 4 or 5 years. He says 1-10 they match up well. I completely disagree, but I wanted to get another opinion. Just wanted to see where others would rank the 10 and decide the win-loss.

I think the PAC 10 is USC them a more evenly distributed conference. The SEC is almost like 6 competitors, and 6 teams who are happy to bowl.

I think we would be surprised with how well the pac10 would matchup with the sec if we had a conference challenge where SEC1-10 played pac 10 1-10.

In 1 game lots of pac 10 teams would give SEC teams trouble, however I think pac 10 teams other than usc would be just average playing in the SEC week in and week out.

Take away any random 3 of the top 6 SEC teams and that's about where the Pac 10 is. Some good teams, some middle, and some bad. The Pac 10 has probably been the 2nd or 3rd best conference over the last 5 years, and while not as good as the SEC they do all play each other.

Wasn't Washington and Washington State a combined 1-23 last year. WSUs only win was over Washington and Wash. had zero.

I think that it's funny that so few here realize that, and that their SEC homerism is an offshoot of East Coast bias...

Anyway, teams win games, not conferences. Individual teams match up better vs. other individual teams. This is why it is so difficult to have a completely objective rating system, and you always need to actually watch the games in college football.

Two indisputable facts-

1. SEC is stronger.

2. PAC-10 has more than a winning record vs. the strongest conference over the past decade.

PAC-10 matches up more than a typical ranter would admit.

Tangerine I am curious to what the Pac10 record is against the SEC over the past decade. I know USC has beat some SEC teams. I also know LSU has beat Arizona twice, Arizona State once, Oregon State once and has Washington coming up to play this September. Georgia beat Arizona State last year. Just curious what the record is...

SEC and Big XII. I have the data at home to prove it in terms of final rankings.

The Big XII has has a closer average, as the Vandy's and MSUs have really stunk, but the SEC is more top heavy.

The Pac 10 has nothing outside USC.

True. Even defining "strength" is completly subjective. What is the criteria? OOC records, winning pct? How do you factor in attrition?
