I don’t see how this is controversial. Should not come as a surprise to anyone.

The only area that I’d see making a case to rival Lafayette is The North shore area. Even there you are sort of tied to Nola for most of the pros vs Lafayette being its own independent city.

Lafayette is very family friendly, clean, safe, has plenty of entertainment options, good healthcare, good centralized location in the gulf coast region. Most notably it has favorable demographics

What’s the issue?

We’re comparing Lafayette to the rest of Louisiana here. Be realistic. We’re not comparing Lafayette to other major US cities like Nashville or Austin.

The scale is Louisiana cities only. “Meh tallest midget” jokes. Ok let’s be adults and have an adult conversation

I mean…it’s got some goods restaurants, I’m sure a decent quality of life. People who live there sure seem to like it, but that’s nothing new. Oh, but that traffic sucks because infrastructure was apparently designed by a toddler.

The north shore and it’s not particularly close, imho.

It’s 3 cities that you could argue are better places to live than Lafayette.

Not particularly close? Based on what? At the very least it’s a 1A 1B situation where there’s a big gap until the #2

Yall are ridiculous

Traffic in Lafayette isn't bad if you live in the city and are traveling within the city. I drove 5 miles across the city in rush hour traffic the other day and it took me less than 15 minutes. That isn't that bad

Now, if you're driving from Youngsville to Lafayette every day, then yeah that sucks, but the same can be said in driving from Metairie to New Orleans, or the outskirts of Baton Rouge to Baton Rouge every day.

I challenge you to find any place that has a “best place to live” title that doesn’t have traffic.

The Woodlands is an awesome place to live and won best in the US at one point. Traffic can be rough at times. That’s normal. People live in places that are good

They have a combined 25k population across the 3 "cities"

The "best" thing about those "cities" is that they are an hour away from a city with restaurants and entertainment.

Must not have been on the south side of town. It’s always been easy to get around town in the central part around downtown and campus. Anything south of the vermilion River gets dicey

I mean, if they're just counting cities above 100k, it's head and shoulders the best. It's competing against NOLA, BR, and Shreveport.

I have no evidence of this other than anecdotal- but isnt the Mandeville /Covington area population alone over 100k by now ? If not, then the traffic sure makes it seem like it .
